Default how did you find out BD/ What was your first experience

this thread is for your stories about the time that you discovered Blu-Ray.

December 2006.

i was out shopping at my local Best Buy when i saw something that caught my eye. I walked over to a rack of movies in strange Blue cases. i picked one up and turned it over. 1080p high Definition? WTf is that? I left. The next time i saw it was when Casino Royale came out. i saw a demo and said " holy CRAP BATMAN!"..... no clue what I was talking about. Then I found out the PS3 could play them, then the price drop happened and here i am.

I was in Best Buy around the same time and they had that demo going of that dude building those high dollar watches up close. I sat there and watched in amazement for like 30 minutes with my wife. I said out loud "that has got to be the best looking TV I have ever seen" and the Best Buy guy near me was like "No that's the Blu'Ray DVD's" and he explained it to me. I wanted one but would not justify spending $1000 on one.

Time passed by and one day last week Circuit city had a great deal on a 1080p LCD in the size I needed so I went there and applied to a credit card. When they approved me for $8000 I was like "I'm getting a PS3 with Blu-Ray!" and I let my wife pick out our first movie. She picked out 007, and after watching it that night we signed up with Netflix and have watched a new movie every night since. I love my PS3

Dec. 06

It was late at night....I was lonely and and very willing to do something crazy, if not a little nasstttyy.....I surfed around on my computer and came to a site that was very seducing and tantalizing....ebay....I searched and I searched and......searched some more until I couldn't take it anymore....then I came across this beautiful black figure....mmmmm,mmmm it had some curves and specs that would drive any man crazy. Man, was she beautiful and cheap too. An offer I couldnt before....I was a little nervous...I never paid for something like this before...but I knew once I did it, it was something I would never forget...I put in....my bid and won a PS3 for only 559.99 (with free shipping) at 3am. Blu Ray was now my *****.....well, actually Im now blu Rays *****....which is ok with me

I first noticed the new HD formats at Blockbuster. A friend of mine turned me onto Blu.

I saw a display at Walmart. I watched the HDDVD display for about two minutes. Then I saw the BD display. I watched it two times through the demo, which was probably 10 to 15 minutes. Then, I went and found my wife and made her watch it.

Believe it or not I bought my Sony tv and I wanted to change my dvd player because it just didn't look right went to Tweeter here in Pa to check out the upconveting players, my eyes caught the first sony blu player was sold rigth away but the only thing that stop me was 1000.00(couldn't explain that to my wife for a dvd player).I step over to the HD-DVD player its was 495.95 at the time(forgot which mode) they had Batman Begins showing it looked good and i was there..SOLD....the sales guy expplain about the studios that blu had and HD didn't and he told me about the s300 that was coming out in a couple a months for 495.95.I waited 2 years to buy my tv I could wait for a few months for a Sony Blu for 495.95.
He also gave me some websites to do some reserch on and this was one of the site along with highdefdigest.

I went back to buy my player from that guy but he wasn't there anymore and because of a Blu guy I am also blu and could be more happier.

I found out about it from HD DVD. My cousin had a Player and was watching King Kong on his LCD, and I was like, Holy Crap, I need a new TV and an HD DVD player! I thought HD DVD was the only thing out there. Thing was, I bought my PS3 a few weeks after and then I discovered Blu-ray. I then did some reading up on HD DVD and Blu-ray, then I picked Blu-ray. Now me and my cousin argue all the time about what is better. My set-up should make his look like crap. I go pick up my TV in 3 days from Best Buy! My PS3 and my Samsung 56" LED Slim-Depth DLP HDTV 1080p against his crappy HD DVD add on for his 360 and his 720p LCD. I win.

Knew I wanted a PS3 and realized that in addition to 1080p games I could be watching movies in the best possible resolution. Saw a bluray demo at best buy and i was convinced, so i went out and got a 46" XBR3

Got a PS3 launch day, came home, put in a couple of movies and was blown away.

Haven't purchased or rented a dvd since.

First time I discovered about Bluray was when Ive seen advertisements for HDDVD, so I went online to find out exactly what that was and I came up on a website which reviewed both HDDVD and bluray. But I didnt have an hdtv at that time so i didnt bother. But a month later I got an HDTV. Ive bought a ps3 and it said it could play blurays! so whee i got out and bought Crank , put it in and ZOMG i was glued to the screen for days watching the movie over and over again (Even missed work for the next day cause i was watching Crank) But then some problems came up in our family and ive had to return my ps3. But just 2 weeks ago I finally saved up some money and bought samsung bd-p1200 And NEVER AM I RETURNING ME BLURAY PLAYER AGAIN!

Disney's exclusivity announcement
PS3 announcement to include BD.
(never heard of HD DVD by that time)

Since then, it's BD all the way, even after hearing HD DVD.

Adopting BD: 18 December 2007 10:00AM (GMT+7) by buying PS3 (Japanese) 60GB
