Default Movie Appreciation Thread - Boys Don't Cry

I watched this film over the weekend, my 3rd viewing, and this film remains as one of the most incredible realistic performances I've ever seen.

I was surprised that I would really like this film as the subject matter is quite uncomfortable and not pleasant to watch (including a brutal rape scene) , and there really isn't much plot. But Hilary Swank just delivers such a powerful performance especially physically. I quickly felt like I was a fly on the wall watching this troubled girl play with fire and finally get burned. The raw emotion just seen on her face was so real and honest. You can't help but have sympathy for Teena in the end.

The other thing I really appreciated with this film was the attention to detail. I really got a sense of deadwater Nebraska culture and just the set decorations of the houses made me feel like I was in trailer trash hell.

Anyone else like this film?

Saw it for the first time recently and thought it was a very well done film. Agree on Hilary's performance, she was excellent and I think this role really put her on the map.
