Default Blockbuster shipping time

OK, now Netflix jacked up their fee again, I am considering switching to Blockbuster. My last experience with BB was not very pleasant because they took one to three extra days to ship their movies but that's like 2 years ago.

Have they improved their shipping time lately? I live in the Bay Area.

Blockbuster
16.99 (3 at a time with Blu-ray)

Netflix
23.99 (3 at a time with Blu-ray)

That's $7 difference

I tried Blockbuster out a year ago and hated the shipping. It took a week for turnaround for each movie so I was basically paying $12 for 3-4 rentals a month.

In my opinion the extra $4 a month for netflix is not that big of an issue. I have heard nothing but issues with BB so I would just skip a cup a coffee for a day to pay for the additional amount.

Just switch to 2 at a time if the monies an issue. $18 for that. I would not go the BB route as I have heard nothing but bad things to very mixed things.

I tried BB at the same time as Netflix during the last price increase, and because I have a store close by, making the "in-store" free rentals (2 a month I believe) rather attractive.

Long story short.... I have Netflix still, and no promotion etc. could get me to switch to BB.

I use Blockbuster after I became fed up withe Netflix's price increases and 28 day new-release window.

That said I really like Blockbuster and find the shipping times to be comparable (I'm in Orlando). They don't have as many shipping centers as Netflix so occasionally a disc may take an extra day or so but usually if I have a movie returned on Saturday the weeks new releases ship on Monday and I get it on Tuesday.

In addition you get 5 free in-store exchanges each month. This is really convenient for me as I have a store within walking distance so on the occasion I want something immediately I can just get it for free in the store. The in-store rentaly counts as one of your 3 so the next title won't ship until that title is returned.

Also, by just returning the online envelope to the store (instead of mailing it back) it gets checked in and the next movie in your queue ships the next day.

I say give it a month and see how you like it. You could always just switch back if you're not happy.

I have used BB online for about 5 years now. I love it! 3 at anytime by mail and I can do 5 in store exchanges a month. I have a BB nearby my home so it makes it convenient for exchanges. I am also in the bay area and the local shipping warehouse comes out of Sacramento. Usually arrives the day after being shipped. Can't complain with that.

Where do you get those prices? Blockbuster 3 at a time is $19.99. Stay with Netflix dude. Unless your a game guy, in which new games, you have to wait forever (new Call of Duty that came out in Nov isn't ready until Jan).

Can someone help,

Is Netflix $9.99 for unlimited online rentals and one at a time by mail? That is what I get from reading their site. If so, I am switching, because Blockbuster has a bunch of stuff as "very long wait" and it's p-ing me off. I'm not a big "New Movie" guy, and want these for older films anyways, so could care less about the 30-day wait for new movies.

Yes CG, that is how it works. You have access to streaming and dvd's. I believe it goes up a couple of bucks if you upgrade to blu-ray. Which is what we did once we got the player. I'd also suggest just putting a title in your dvd que, whether it is out or not. It will save it if it isn't out. If it is and you can wait, put it those long waits at the bottom of your que. That way when the movie comes out you don't have a long wait. The price increase doesn't really worry me too much, but I do wish they would throw their hat in the gaming arena. I think if they did that it would probable hit Red Box in the gut and put the final nail in BB coffin. Knock on wood, I've never had a issue with Netflix. BB on the other hand is just too far from where I live to be a convenience at the moment. Hope that helps.

That helps. I had Netflix and Blockbuster in the past and just recently decided to do it again, and thought Blockbuster looked best with it's games pitch. So I signed up. Well I have already had problems, so will be switching to Netflix soon. I only need one movie at a time anyways by mail and even though I don't care much for watching movies online, I could watch T.V. shows and such or a movie I can't wait to see. Thanks again.

I've had a couple movies arrive damaged or not at all, and BB was quick to send me out a replacement with no questions asked. There's only been a couple times when movies were delayed any longer than 1-2 extra days. All-in-all, I've been very happy with them.
so, essentially with BB you can watch 1 movie a week youre saying? thats not a very good lead time at all man... Netflix, if i ship a movie out on Monday, i wil get my movie on Wednesday...and in the 3 years ive had it, i have had ONE damaged disc, Elf...which isnt that unusual becuase its a kids movie, so god knows how they handle discs and it was a DVD...

id say go with Netflix...i love it

$16.99 is the price for 3 at a time by mail only.
$19.99 is for unlimited mail exchanges and 5 in-store rentals as well.

I've played around with both and have mixed feelings. Netflix definitely has the better turnaround time for me, usually receive movies 1-2 days quicker. However, Blockbuster definitely has a better catalog blu-ray selection, plus no wait for new releases.

I've been using Blockbuster for about three years now. I get the 3 DVD plan for $16.99. As stated earlier, the $19.99 plan is if you want five free in-store exchanges. I used to take advantage of the in-store exchanges when it was unlimited.

Anyway, I live in the same town as both the Netflix and Blockbuster distribution centers so my movies take two days to arrive if I mail them back early enough. If I mail back on Monday morning I'll have new movies by Wednesday.

I haven't tried Netflix yet but I hear the streaming is awesome. I don't have anything to stream with besides my PC so I decided to stick with Blockbuster. Never had a problem with them before. So far so good!
