Angry I Just Can't Do It Anymore...

Sorry guys, I just can't take it anymore. I'm done.

No more DVD's for me. For good. Upconverting? Whatever. Having watched several BD's in a row, I felt like I forgot what it was like to watch DVDs. So I reverted back to my DVD library and tried to watch Hostage on my PS3 and man, it's a terrible compromise. Now that I've tasted heaven, everything else tastes like hell. And it sucks. Time to sell my 75+ DVD library....some of which are my favorite movies ever (Children of Men, Magnolia, Lord of the Rings, the Matrix Trilogy, Braveheart, Gladiator...etc...) Here's to hoping for a strong release schedule and more studio support over the next couple of years so I can rebuild...

Much as I despise the PQ on SD, for a title that I really want and like that's not available on BD, I'd rather watch it on SD than not at all.

my blockbuster queue is full of 'em so yeah...if its a movie i havent seen and if its not available on bd (and won't be anytime soon), then i'll crack there. but that's it. maybe on super rare occasions, borrow one or two from a friend. but buy them? i can't.

my plans exactly in a year ahead. once that Pavilion HDX, modified with Panasonic UJ-210 is mine, then it's over for DVD. Expecting the drive in a month, HDX in 3-4 months

I don't get it. I think DVD looks great and I just use an inexpensive Oppo DV-980H or Sony DVP-NS75H. I agree Blu-ray looks better as does HD DVD, but I still watch DVD much more than both new formats combined. A great movie or concert on DVD is still enjoyable for me and I usually use a 720p LCD projector and 100" screen. The software selection available on Blu-ray offers too little of interest to me to even think about giving up DVD.

No way is DVD good enough or looks great!

Ever since upgrading to the PS3 & a 720p projector if anything DVD just doesn't cut the mustard anymore. I notice softness, mpeg blocks, etc...especially after watching 1080p material no DVD I watch looks any good.

Im not prepared to give up on DVD but atm i've ceased buying dvd's (except for shows like family guy, simpsons etc) and will soley start focussing on aquiring my films in HD.

DVD's had its day but after watching many DVD's on the latest 1080p displays, DVD REAAAALLLY shows how weak it is!*

* I worked for a major Australian retailer and this was my job, setting up, selling and demo'ing systems. DVD has had it's day and still does in the world of SD but in the world of HDTV it's just not good enough!

It's kind of funny - my wife mentioned one night that she didn't see anything special about the picture we were watching, and I told her that she had become accustomed to the PQ of HD and was simply 'used to' that level of quality now. I put in a SD DVD and turned off upscaling and then showed a 480i feed from the satellite, and she was quickly like 'ooh, make it stop!'. Yes, how quickly we become accustomed to looking at life through Blu colored glasses...

Your topic starts of like you've given up on BD and HD in general but dvd ?? Ok ?

I was 100 on that you had given up on HD when I red the topic..I have sold most of my dvd collection as well, had about 300+

Torrents and Dvd-R is your friend if u wanna go the ghetto way.

I agree I can't stand watching SD if I have a blu option. But I will doubt I am going to see a blu release of Seven Samurai so I will be happy with that SD. Although I am going to start turning into a sandy vagina if Sin City isn't released soon.
