Default Upgrade from Onkyo TX-SR605?

A few years back I bought an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver. I want to upgrade and from what Im reading I see that the TX-SR608 is a good choice. Can someone tell me if it's worth the upgrade or if these two are too similar?

It's not a real upgrade. How much are you looking to spend?

I disagree. I think going from the 605 to 608 would be a significant upgrade with the THX certification and more HDMI inputs. If you are sticking with the same speakers and are happy with your current 605, then I say go for it

Now if you have difficult to drive speakers or are planning to delve into more power hungry speaks at some point, you may want to take a look at the 708 or above...

That does not make any sense to me. If he is happy with the 605 then go for the 608?

If he's happy then stick with what you have. Upgrading every one or two years with the same entry level receiver because of one or two changes in that model is going to be expensive.

If you can afford it, and want to upgrade receiver so soon, atleast move up in model numbers. I understand this is not always the case, because some new models may be worth it, I just don't think this is one of them.

To the OP, I guess the question to you is, why do you what to upgrade?

I know you stated $500, but you can get an 808 for $599.99... Now that's an upgrade!

I'm sorry...

Or get the Onkyo RC-180 for $399.99.

More power and also pre-outs.

This is also better then getting an 608

I'd have to disagree with this point. THX is overrated, not to mention all links in the chain would need to meet THX specification for any added benefit.

So the 608 having THX is close to meaningless. I would not base any purchase because of this.
