Default Attention Robotech Fans...

This is news to me, and I didn't see any other posts so here ya go.

Robotech Movie

As much as I loved Transformers, I was a bigger fan of Robotech. The good news so far, WB has it - of course by the time it finishes production, is released in theaters, and eventually makes it to home video, Blu-ray will have won anyway

They should just make Macross Plus into a movie. Short enough, self-contained, and not ruined in its US release

Too bad Stealth probably killed that

He wasn't my first choice for Spidey either, but once I saw the movie I was ok with him... but, he's also not a top choice for me to take the Robotech lead either.

he just really can't act all that well. Unless you give him the roll of some loser emo kid who turns out to be gay after long years of denial.

I hope they don't give him the Rick Hunter hair-do. That would be REAL bad.

I have always been a MUCH bigger fan of Macross than Transformers. Always felt the later was a rip off, especially when I realized as a child that the plane transformer was just a rip off of the Valkyrie in Macross.

I really hope they do this franchise justice. It's truly a great story. Granted the 'Robotech' adaption of Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada is a little 'soft', especially in the vague way they linked them together.

Overall, it could make a very interesting series of movies... at least three.

Thumbs down

Ugh, and they had to use the Harmony Gold name of Robocrap, er I mean Robotech. I wish they would call it as it is... Macross, and use the real ethnicities and names from the Japanese version.

After the successful CGI in Transformers, I wouldn't mind seeing a live action robotech.

Macross Plus was very good, though.

It's not anime. It's a bastardization of the continuity Macek threw together in a couple hours (that's what he told me) to tie 3 unrelated shows together

This is simply a craptastic movie that Harmony Gold put together to once again try to seperate "Robotech" from its component elements.

"Anime Bento" is simply digital projection of a few anime titles (I wish Cagliostro wasn't dubbed) in the movie theater, it's a satellite multicast just like they do the marching band thing and concerts.

I'm sure you can rent it at pretty much any blockbuster, it's been out for months

Macek... he's an interesting character. I met him for the first time back in 1986 when Robotech was at its height. I think he was willing, at the time, to try anything to get those shows on the air. Even if it only took him a few minutes, it is quite an accomplishment to link Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospedia into a fairly cohesive story-line. Those shows couldn't have been more different.

I still have my original copy of "Robotech Art 1" signed by Macek. Anyone want to buy it?

I also just snagged an original production cel and key animation drawing from Macross. Great stuff!

Uh.. check out my avatar... duh.

I actually found Shadow Chronicles to be a good bit of fun. Robotech was what got me into anime back in the mid 80's. But I'm not a hardcore weird fanatic about Robotech. There's an HD vesrion of the film as well, something I confirmed back when it was released.

As for Cagliostro, well, I'm glad it's dubbed. It means I can take my daughter and several of her friends since they adore Lupin and likely wouldn't see a Lupin movie on the big screen otherwise.

Harmony Gold hired him. They already had a syndication package lined up and it was happening no matter how bad the end product would have ended up being under another peron's watch. They sat there with 2 studios and an edit bay between them and dubbed 80 episodes in either 2 or 4 months, I forget which. Either way for reference even the mediocre on their best day dubs they do now take closer to a week an episode.

I see it as a miracle that it's any good at all to be honest

That being said, it should never be viewed again. It served its purpose, and now we have original subtitled versions of all the shows in their proper form, should be properly Ark'd so Reba West can never make another child cry.

Totally off topic, but are you a Blue Angel pilot? Love seeing them when they come here (abbotsford air show).
