Default wireless streaming

does anyone do this with their xbox?

I like the idea of being able to port my laptop around the room and use my xbox to play my itunes without having a wire involved.

I downloaded Vuze which after a ton of looking around the net seemed to be the only program that allowed me to connect my laptop (mac) to my xbox for free. Anyways it registers the xbox on vuze and my computer registers the xbox... but as soon as i start playing something my xbox disconnects from xbox live. Anyone know why this is, and could it be because both are connected wirelessly to my router?

This was all only because i couldn't get my phone/ipod (got a new 8gb card for it for xmas) to register as a flash drive in the slot although it did charge with the usb slot.

Big pain in the *** that had me extremely frustrated last night. Looking for any tips, experience or help with this.

Not sure how to answer this 100%. I stream 3 devices simultaneously. The only time i see a slow down, or problem is if i use netflix or a similar service on two or more at the same time. But i don't have a problem if my wife is listening to music on the computer or surfing the web while i play or watch something. Maybe you need a faster internet or router. I have a middle of the road speed internet.

One that I use for both my 360 and PS3 is PS3 Media Server. It's extremely simple to set up and you can set it to stream either your entire computer with all drives, or specific folders. You can also use a wired connection, which I do, and it's leaps and bounds faster.

PS3 Media Server works with both the 360 and PS3 even though it's especially made for the PS3. I haven't found anything that can't be played on one that can be on the other. However, it queues the folders differently on the 360. With the 360, it freezes until the entire folder is viewable (maybe ten seconds) whereas with the PS3 you can see each folder/file populate as it becomes available.

If you have any trouble with the setup (if you decide to go this route which I highly recommend) feel free to ask me any questions you have. It's definitely the quickest and easiest media streaming program I've found.

would my router speed effect this.... or could my overall internet speed effect this? (i didn't think it was the internet speed, because it just going from my computer to my router back to the 360 all via wireless)....

I have the 360 slim which occasionally disconnects from xbox live for some unknown reason lol, so at first i thought it was just that but it most definitely is doing it as soon as the streaming begins...

My overall internet speed is 2 or 4 mbps not sure which..... and my router is older so not sure what wireless letter its operating at (if that could matter).

Im probably just gonna go get a new wire mic2L/R thats long enough i don't have to sit with my laptop 2 inches in front of my receiver.... but at this point its one of those things that wether i would continue to use it or not, i have to figure it out lol. Ill give that ps3 program a shot my next day off, see if it was a possible software program.

One final thought but could codecs be the problem.... although most my stuff is high bit rate mp3 much is aac, alac, and protected aac.

I am a bit pissed that the flash drive doesn't read the stuff on my phone also since that was the main reason i wanted to upgrade the memory, that and being able to ditch my old 2 gig ipod for one 8gb phone with music.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you are literally talking about streaming your media to your 360, right? If that's the case, and you are not using a wired connection, then yes it has everything to do with your router and not much at all to do with your internet connection. You can still use your computer for a media server even if your internet is down. I am no expert on routers, but yes you will get much better and steady streaming abilities from certain higher end routers. (however, you will get the absolute best from a wired connection, just saying)

Edit:

Regarding your question about codecs, yes, that could be your problem. The good thing about that is the PS3 Media Server program converts them as it streams to an acceptable file type that is supported by the PS3. This means you can stream anything from mp3 to aac, flac, and all sorts of video files also. I listen to flacs on a daily basis, and it streams them losslessly so it sounds phenomenal.
