Default Dementia 13 and The Terror coming to blu

I never thought these flicks would ever see a blu release. Good to see these smaller classics getting released.

I'll pick these up for sure.

Awesome! Some early Coppola classics. He directed Dementia 13 and is one of the uncredited directors for The Terror (even Jack Nicholson supposedly directed a bit of that one). Both two little horror gems

Good news but where's The Little Shop of Horrors and A Bucket of Blood?

The Terror was actually directed by five (count em) five directors!

Roger Corman
Francis Ford Coppola
Monte Hellman
Jack Hill
Jack Nicholson

I've not seen Dementia 13 for quite a while but re-watched The Terror on DVD several months ago. The storyline isn't the most coherent of storylines, but I think it's quite a compelling and atmospheric film.

They're Public Domain. (See related thread.)
When weren't they going to get a release??

And, as expected, from the good folks at HD Cinema Classics....Whoever they are.
(And given most PD-vultures, we probably will get Little Shop of Horrors and A Bucket of Blood next.)

That is awesome. Thank you for posting! I love Dementia 13 and have never (but always wanted to) see The Terror. I'll definitely be getting these.

I like Dementia 13, but I'm not as keen on The Terror. I went ahead and ordered them anyway because I can see having a good time with these on my projection system. More authentic somehow.

I'd love to get both of these on Blu-ray, but I'm not about to order any public domain movies until I see some reviews. Hopefully they won't suck but I'm not getting my hopes up.

There really isn't any reason that a PD release would be any worse than a major studio release. All it takes is a good 35 print. There are lots of those on Dementia 13. There won't be all the scratch removal and grain smoothing, but that's a good thing in my opinion. I prefer blurays that look like film when they're projected.

It's a case of "There shouldn't be, but there IS"--
Free things tend to attract companies that can't afford anything else.

Real studios (such as Warner restoring the Fleischer Popeyes and Supermans, or Criterion restoring Charade and 39 Steps) can afford some nice Lowry goodness--While a mom-and-pop company that wants to tag along with the big boys tends to be grateful they can slap it on silver and push it on a shelf at all.
I remember getting into a big argument with an animation-fan board over the fact that they were so surprised that Koch's "Gulliver's Travels" Blu turned out as badly as it did, when I'd kept saying "Dude, it's public domain and a no-name studio, were you honestly expecting Criterion?? "

(We birth-of-DVD fans, when there was a blitz of back-alley "50 Classic Films on 3 DVD's!" sets, joke about the new kids not knowing their Classic PD Title List, like we used to have drilled into our memory by repetition like the multiplication tables--Little Princess, D.O.A., Sherlock Holmes, Little Shop of Horrors...
Geez, never mind Night of the Living Dead, some people today can't even name the six PD Three Stooges shorts! )

Yes, grain should be intact because it gives the image the detail, but keeping scratches and print damage is not something that should happen. Print damage should be removed.

that's my take as well-- public domain titles can be anything-- bad transfers, beat-up prints, even scenes missing--

looking forward to reviews-- if they are decent quality I'm in for both titles!

MGM HD just showed The Terror for their Corman month celebration and it looked great, I'd assume it's the same master.

These type of movies are never going to be 100% awesome in the PQ department intill someone does a transfer from a neg or Coppola release it. I'm still getting mine and will judge for my self. I'm sure it's better then the ton of crappy DVDs from before.

If these people would just learn how to apply dnr judiciously instead of just going crazy they might actually be capable of releasing a decent bd of a PD title.
Look, I really want them to succeed because these films--even though some of them are pretty bad--are still relevant as far as film history, and deserve at least one decent release.
Maybe with the next batch of films, these guys will finally release a title where everything comes together properly.
They seem to be improving, but there's still no way to be totally sure.
Hopefully they are actually beginning to understand they don't need to apply so much dnr for these bds.
I would at least rent this one if I could, and would purchase it at $6.99 probably.
so I'm not totally ready to write this distributor off, even though I said as much previously.
there still seems to be a glimmer of hope for the future.
btw: in case anyone is wondering, the other bd release of this film shown under the review was announced but never came out.
It should imo be deleted from the system.
Yeah, I think I am going to keep my preorder for The Terror. Judging by the review it does not seem to be DNRed as bad as Dementia 13.

BTW, here is the review for The Terror if anyone wants it.

The two-pack came in a slip sleeve (two cases inside one sleeve).
