Default Sony BDP S570 vs. Sony BDP S470

So, before the holidays, I was looking for a Blu-ray player to replace my PS3. Therefore, I managed to stop by my local best buy store and I picked up the S570, which happened to be on sale. However, after the holidays I bought a 3D-TV and was given the S470 Blu-ray player as a bonus after purchasing my new 3D-TV. I still haven't opened both Blu-ray players, though; I'm not sure which one to go with. Therefore, I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for me as far as choosing the Blu-ray player that's suitable for me. I know the S570 is wireless ready, whereas the S470 isn't. Besides that difference, which Blu-ray player is better? Or are they the same minus the wireless ready option? I would appreciate your help. Thanks!

Besides the wireless differences they are the same. I'd keep the 570 and sell the 470.

Awesome. Thanks for your help. I think I did hear that the 470 was slimmer than the 570, though. Oh, well. The 570 is the current Sony Blu-ray player out there, right?

Actually the 570 is a little thicker. The 570 is current but the new players were announced at CES. So it'll be current for a couple months.

The BDP-S770 is the most recent Sony BD player out there: LINK.

I am not tryin to hijack this thread or nothing but instead of making a brand new one, I wanna ask the knowledgable people here whats the difference between the 270, 370, 470 etc? I dont really care about wireless because I have ethernet connection at my entertainment center. I really cant find many differences between the models and I can get the s270 at walmart for $94 right now!

Btw im coming from a panny bd60 but I am tired of it being SOOOOO slow thats why I am upgrading.

In what way? There are no long load times for the 570 from what I can tell.

The 270 does not play SACD.

The 370 adds SACD.
The 470 adds 3D.
The 570 adds wifi.
The 770 had 3D from the start (it was added to the 570 via firmware update.)

Correct any mistakes here, I own and love the 370. I have a SACD.

Please go with the 570 on this one. If you do you will be glad you did. The 270 is so slow. The 370,470 are great and fast but go for the one with all the bells and whistles, "570".

I did end up buying the 570 from amazon. It will be here tommorow and I think for less than 150 bucks its great. I paid like 250 for my panasonic bd60 a year and a half ago, that one will now go to my mom and stepdad to match the 37 Panny LCD I got them for xmas.

Generally, the biggest difference between the S470 and S570 is that the S470 lacks wireless network access (though it will accept Sony's proprietary USB wireless adaptor for a wireless connection). Sony's proprietary USB wireless adapter adds more cost than the difference in price between the S470 and S570, making the S570 the more economical player for those interested in using a wireless network connection. The S570 also has 1GB of built-in storage for BD-Live.

I stream Netflix HD easily to my S570 via Wireless N without problem. My router is located one room away and there is virtually no loss at this proximity on my home network.

You basically convinced me to go with the 570. I think I will keep both, though, and perhaps use the 470 in another room. Thank you! However, are you saying that the 470 does not accept any ethernet cable for net access?

The 470 does hard ethernet connection to the internet. You can also use a wireless gaming adapter that you need to set up prior to connecting it to the Blu ray player.

Why not keep both? I find it very convenient to have two BD players attached to the TV. Currently watching the complete "Lost" series, I can leave that disc in one player and still watch a movie (2D or 3D) with the other player.

I got a 370 before Thanksgiving for $78. Regardless of which model you decide on, you should shop around for the best price. Lately I have noticed that Walmart is higher than other stores on a lot of items. They still have good deals, but you can't assume that Walmart is always lower.

Oh definitely. The lowest I can find the 570 is $138 at walmart but its not in stock, amazon has it for about $145 I believe. I live in a smaller town so all we have for electronics is walmart pretty much, and all they have is the 570 at 138 if it gets in stock and the 270 at 94 bucks. I think im leaning towards the 570 but I wish I could just buy it at walmart for the ease of return if need be.

Newegg has it for $149 (with free shipping) at this moment. I've seen it for it for $138 on Newegg on promotion, too. Just thought I'd drop that for ya since you don't have a lot of options, Fors.

As you know, I have this player and it's really great, save for the Sunshine PIP issue, and evidently, the newly released Machete is a problem for some. Other than this, the player is a fine unit with amazingly fast BD loading times and the best feature-set for its price. I also stream Netflix HD content flawlessly via wireless with it.
