In theory, I would strogly agree with you. It just makes sense.

But then we have Phoenix as Cash, Hoffman as Capote, Bale as Eklund, Foxx as Charles and Carrey as Kaufman. And all those worked well.

Bottom line for me, as a huge John Lennon fan, I would love for something to come to film about his life.

Ya..we definitely need something. I'm surprised no other attempts have been made prior. I'm having trouble picturing Pitt as Lennon but we'll see.

With nary a passing resemblance to the former Beatle, seeing Pitt in the role will be a tough sell for me, even with makeup. Like John72953, I think the role may be better served by someone who's new or relatively unknown. Time for the casting director to earn his/her pay cheque.

I would say that unknown actors work much better for biopics.
Best example would be the characters of Mozart and Salieri in Amadeus.

And there are objective reasons as to why one needs unknown actors to portrait known real people.
