I may have spoken too soon about the one of the ‘sequels that never happened’ in that recent feature article of mine.

“Con-Air 2″.

In an interview with Coming Soon, director Simon West says he’s hoping to convince Nicolas Cage to board the Prisoner Plane one more time. West is working with Cage on his next film “Medallion” and says he’ll make sure to speak to the actor about it, then. Though West admits it’s going to be real hard getting the cast of the 1997 actioner back together – such names as Ving Rhames, John Cusack, Danny Trejo, Steve Buscemi, John Malkovich and Dave Chappelle featured in the first film – he believes if he can convince Cage, the rest will follow. Thing is, West doesn’t need many of the cast members back… over half of them, um, died at the end of the original.

Here’s what I wrote about the once proposed “Con-Air 2″ in my 50 Sequels that Never Happened article. Whether or not this is a legit storyline, let alone one they’re planning on working with, I don’t know – still, interesting.

Why get Malkovich back?That would take some inspired writing

Not sure if I'm at all excited about this.The first was entertaining,I'll give it that,but a follow up seems pointless.Just my opinion though.

Loved the first one and would love a sequel if done right but I wonder what kind of story could they use? Got Em!!

Its not hard to make a story up to make a sequel to these types of action movies.... i always thought the first was a top notch action flick.... then i watched it again last year its its just ok... nothin to brag about.....

im sure a sequel would be entertaining thoguh

As long as Cage and Cusack are back, I'd be all for it They could take the movie in a way where Cusack and Cage, both friends after the first movie end up being brought into a case when another Prison transport plane is taken hostage and the two must work together to get the prisoners off the plane. I mean, it's like the first movie, but it would definitely at least be entertaining

Maybe they'll follow some absurd 24-type of plot where this time Poe and Larkin are trying to break a prisoner out of a prisoner transport for who knows what reason. Or they could pull The Fugitive where Larkin is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit and Poe comes to his rescue.

John Cusack Would Like To Do 'Con-Air 2'

Hollywood actor John Cusack has said he would star in a sequel to the 1997 action thriller Con Air. The star, who played US Marshal Vince Larkin in the film, told the BBC News website making a second film "would be fun".

Director Simon West said last year he was keen to make a sequel and reunite Cusack with co-stars Nicholas Cage and John Malkovich.

"It'd be great. It's a matter of getting everybody together," West said, at the time.

Last month, Cage has also said that a Con Air sequel would be "interesting".

It had been rumoured some years ago that a sequel had been in the pipeline, but Cusack said he had "never heard anything about it".

The actor, who is currently starring in Edgar Allan Poe thriller The Raven, has just finished filming with Cage on another movie, in which Cusack plays a serial killer.

Con Air centred on a newly-released ex-con, and war hero, who is trapped on board a prisoner transport plane when it is taken over by the passengers. It also starred Steve Buscemi and Ving Rhames.

The film took more than $200m (£126m) at the box office worldwide when it was released in 1997, and was nominated for two Oscars including best song for How Do I Live, made famous by LeAnne Rimes.

con-air was great but Cage and Cusack reprising their roles?? i don't know... it could work... but it would seem cheesy

Easily one of the best exchanges in the entire movie. I love it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, but since the only (main) characters who survived are Poe and Larkin, a new group of crooks would need introducing. Steve Buscemi could come back, but he'd have to play Garland Greene as reformed, due to the ending of the first film. It would be cool to see more with Monica Potter as Trisha, since she was a little underused in the first one. I just don't want a sequel for its own sake; if they can tastefully add something worthwhile to the mix, go for it. Otherwise, leave it alone.
