Default standard minimum Blu-ray resolution?

Is there such thing as a minimum resolution for blu-ray? I've hit a couples of movies that are not 1080p (understandable because of superscope format) but Die Hard 1 on bluray (from the boxset) is 1680x712 which is not even 720p.

? The BD frame is 1080 x 1920, the image on it, letterboxed for a Scope movie, is ~ 800 x 1920

Actually, 720p is 1280x720 (provided it's not a scope movie)... And where did you get the idea that Die Hard is 1680x712?

I was wondering that as well since all four Die Hard films are 1920 x 1080 on BD.

Die Hard on BD is most definitely not 1680x712. What's even going on here?

Your troll is showing? I dunno, I got nothin. And by that I mean, "technically Die Hard isn't "1080P"--nor is any 2.35:1 film on blu ray--buuut I'm too lazy right now to go into explaining why it isn't and how it's still way more than 1680x720, and someone else hopefully will."

There are indeed several live concerts and sporting events that were shot in 720p or 1080i.

I thought the actual question has been answered several times... also looking for clarification on what the OP is talking about since some of his assertion (regarding Die Hard, for example) don't make sense.
