United Kingdom The Persuaders!

I have heard the news that Network is issuing The Persuaders! series on blu ray in 2012!!

The huge bummer for me is that I'm here in the US and Network is locking the series to Region B.

I'm thinking about a region free blu ray player. Not sure though.

I suppose I could wait and hope that A&E or another US video company will pick up the series for release in the US.

However, A&E did not have more than a commentary or 2 for the series when they issued it on DVD here. I ended up importing the Network DVD set of The Persuaders! to get all of the fine extras.

So very exciting news, but I'm a bit bummed about it too. Maybe something will change before the series is released on blu ray this year though.

Sharp makes a blu ray player here in the US that will play Regions A, B and C. In addition Oppo's BDP-93 can also play other regions as well.

Tremendous news, but hopefully this set will have LPCM 2.0 audio and not lossy Dolby Digital 2.0. It always bothers me that Network do beautiful picture restorations but then short change the audio. I know it seems a minor complaint, but it's the principle of the format, really

£59.99 (£49.99 sans VAT) on Amazon right now:

To be able to play the region B series here in the US, one would have to get a blu ray player from Oppo and a mod kit then???

Thanks!

I think there are Oppo players available that are region free out of the box! You could also do a Google search for players that are able to have their regions changed via a code.

Massively happy that this is coming to blu - i love this show!

Just go on ebay. There are several multi-region players available. I bought one that cost me $150, shipping included, and it works perfectly for all regions of DVD and Blu-ray. Make sure it will convert PAL to NTSC though for DVD and Blu-ray special features that happen to be formatted in PAL.

It's a real cracker of a boxset.
The book with it makes for very interesting reading and the quality of it is higher than the usual viewing note books.
It's a definitive set in that it wastes 2 whole dvd's by porting over the ITC 80's compilation movies too.
If you're a real hardcore fan I would also recommend the brochure that was produced for the event that Roger Moore attended for the 40th anniversary release in 2011. Calling it a brochure rather undersells it but as it's quite expensive for what it is it really is for the most dedicated fans only and they were running low so you might pick one up for a few pound off in the current sale.

Although UFO was a bit under par (due to them using existing old masters) Network Blurays for ITC shows are state of the art quality and even outshine many Hollywood releases. The Persuaders is breathtaking quality and for once they did spend time on location so the South of France exteriors in a few episodes really benefit.

There may be some buried on a site somewhere. The release is 6 years old now. The German set is also 5 years old

It's in the same ballpark as The Prisoner Blu-ray. Have no qualms.

Just finished watching The Saint on DVD (God, I wish they would release that series on BD!)

I enjoyed myself so much with that series, thinking I will just grab this as a blind buy.

I blind bought the DVDs when they came out years ago and instantly fell in love with this show (hadn’t seen The Saint at the time, but was a fan of Moore’s Bond films).
Some of the episode plots are a bit silly, but watching Curtis and Moore strut their stuff, tongues firmly in cheeks, is so much fun, so much so that often the plots don’t even really matter.
They have great on-screen chemistry, with all their joking around, ad-libbing and one-upmanship, and that brings such a sense of fun to the show, more so than most other shows.

The blu-rays, like most Network releases of these kind of shows, look immaculate too.

There is one episode on the persuaders blu ray set.
I’m not sure if the series will ever be issued on blu ray.
I believe there was an announcement that it was coming but it was years ago.
There are some saint film and tv projects in the works so maybe in the future.

I love the show too!

Persuaders is my favorite but I love the saint too.

I can't get that to work with Chrome, but it says it's supported with their FAQ.

The first colour episode of The Saint is also in HD on one of Networks Retro Action releases.
A Bluray release for The Saint would be excellent but I think it's such a large undertaking that Network may leave it until the shorter series are done. ITV don't seem to be interested at all.
The superior B&W episodes continue to be ignored by ITV who have not shown them for over 40 years and it's over 20 years since they even got aired on satellite so they seem forgotten. I'd love Network to do a monthly issue of 5 episodes from the B&W series as they did with Randall etc.
I'd still buy the colour ones but many are so poor in comparison

Just got this set delivered from Network.

I guess the digipak packaging is no more, as my set came in a standard blu-ray case with no slip or extra printed material of any kind. The copyright date on the back states 2018, so I am guessing that is when they likely transition to the standard case.

So The Persuaders no longer includes the superb book that came with the original release?
That's disappointing. It's glossy pages and photos made it probably the best of the viewing notes books
