Default Saddest Movie Ending of All Time

You ever have a movie that stays with you for awhile and you can't stop thinking about how sad it was? This is it for me...

I think the saddest ending to a movie I have seen was Grave of the Fireflies.

Another one that comes to mind is the ending of Brokeback Mountain.

This could be a major spoiler for those who haven't watched the movie

But the ending in South Korea's Harmony really put me in tears.

Funny thing about your quote is that when I saw the tread title The Last American Virgin was the first movie that came to mind.

My second choice is The Mist

I'm not sure The Mist struck me as being sad, but that is certainly the most "Oh my god, I can't believe that just happened" ending.

Well I don't see how you can say the ending in "The Mist" wasn't sad but as you can see in many of the posts after mine, I wasn't the only one who thought The Mist fit into this catagory.

Same here. Back in the day, that ending would just devestate me. As one critic put it "Besides pulling nose hairs, nothing brings tears to a man's eyes quicker than the ending of Last American Virgin."

United 93, a very powerful ending. Paul Greengrass made it gut wrenching.
The Mist. that ending had me thinking about it for days

I actually sat in the theater stunned for an eternity after The Mist ended. My dad had already walked out and had to come back and get me.

it has to be LoTR, and it is only because it was all over. When I read the books I couldn't bring myself to read the last page because it was just too sad it was over.
