yeah Rio Bravo looks WAY too digitized.
It was such an early release; I really wish Warner would redo it, but, of course, the odds are very low for that. This is a Paramount release which hopefully will look similar to True Grit, which was not a bad disc by any means imo. |

the trilogy is John Fords Cavalry Trilogy, which was Fort Apache, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, both owned by WB, and Rio Grande which is a Republic title currently in the hands of Lionsgate, who has yet to release anything pre 1970 |

![]() ![]() It was because John Wayne had three GREAT films with the word Rio in the title, I those films are not a true trilogy as well. I WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE THEM ALL ON BLU, MANY WILL AGREE ON THAT! ![]() |

After finally grabbing El Dorado, I need Rio Lobo (as unremarkable as it sounds) to complete both my Hawks/Wayne collection and the unofficial Wayne "Rio" trilogy. Does anybody know why the price remains so high on this? Last edited by SeanJoyce; 08-25-2019 at 11:40 PM. |

I read the Rio Lobo Blu-ray Review on site and I disagree. I have always really enjoyed this movie. I watched it Saturday night and enjoyed it again. I wasn't really impressed by the transfer but it is superior to the dvd.

Yeah, I'd say the PQ is a 3, it's decent enough, but not near as good as Big Jake. But I have to agree with his overall rating for the movie, it's well down my list of favorite John Wayne movies. The acting does come across as everyone being on cruise control and in the mindset of "let's get one more John Wayne Western on the market". I was going to pass on it, but when it dropped to $10.49 said "ah, what the heck, why not?". I've spent more and got less.

I'm watching this movie and so far I think the PQ is 2.5-3.0. Watchable. I've never seen the movie before and although it's not a stinker, I think Rio Bravo is far better. Next will be the Big Jake Blu-ray. I picked up McClintock on DVD the other day and watched that. That was a an excellent movie and I hope that makes it out on Blu-ray.

All I know is the PQ of this and Big Jake is superior to True Grit and at least for these newer releases someone left the damn DNR botton alone. True Grit is waxier than it should be, but they used the identical HD transfer for the bluray as used on the dvd from 2007. True Grit easily could have looked better with the existing transfer and less digital manipulation.

I finished the movie and found it utterly forgetable. I mean it felt like pretty much everybody involved just phoned in their performance. Very lackluster all around. And now that I'm watching Big Jake, which so far is a MUCH better movie as well as significantly better PQ, I would definately grade Rio Lobo's PQ as a bonifed 2.5. Big Jake's PQ is impressive in light of what I saw with Rio Lobo.
