When I was a kid my mom would continuously watch this film and it grew on me. I haven't seen it in many years but I'm sure I can enjoy it again. This will be another VHS upgrade.

A good movie but the price at Amazon is still $24.00 . I hope it goes down in price soon, other wise I prefer to buy it at another date with a more reasonable price.

A review with screenshots has been posted at DVDbeaver. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-r...my_blu-ray.htm

This movie is still going for $24. I'll just have to wait until it drops in price.

I don't understand why this release is priced so high. I was hoping to use the BB $5 coupon on it, but it's not even listed on their website.

Whenever I see this movie title, I think of Chris Berman and his "Eric Sleepinwithbienemy".

Am I the only one who finds Patrick Bergins' performance in this unintentionally funny?

Sadly the movie has been cut on bluray.
I also have the dvd, and there's the uncut version.

It sounds like there was a US cut when it came out, and also a European one, with the sex scene. I've seen the film many times, and I can't honestly say if I remember that scene ever being present in the US.

That said, it sounds like the US HD master was used throughout the world to make BDs, probably because the studio didn't realize there were two different cuts.

The same thing happened with Love Actually. Universal created an HD master for Britain, not realizing the film had alternate pop songs in the US. The first wave of BDs around the world, including the US, featured the UK cut. They corrected this for the 15th anniversary edition BD in the US, which featured the US cut.

Studios are often not completely on top of alternate international cuts the way they should be, especially for older catalog titles.

However it sounds like the BD of Sleeping With The Enemy in the US is "uncut" by US standards, since the longer version only ever played in Europe, if I'm reading things right on that link.

Again, even though I've seen the film probably a dozen times, I can't honestly say one way or the other.

I was reading through this thread and the existence of an uncut version got me thinking if the film was available uncut without PAL speedup. I saw that Japan released a DVD which it said was 99 minutes, so I took a gamble and bought a Japanese DVD from an auction site. Lo and behold, the earlier sex scene is there. I've never seen the film before and cannot fathom why it was cut, especially since the later sex scene on the bed is sort of more graphic and also features a shot of Bergin's bottom when he gets out of bed afterwards. The runtime of the feature is exactly 1:38:30 (99 minutes, just) which is 52 seconds longer than the Blu-ray's runtime of 1:37:38. It should also be noted that the Japanese DVD has a 2.0 audio track, where the R1 DVD and Blu-ray apparently have only a 5.1 remix. A Japanese: Dolby Digital 2.0 dub is also offered, and the disc has optional English (non-SDH) and Japanese subtitles for the feature.

Extras appear to mimic those listed on rewind / dvdcompare.net for the PAL DVDs:

Quote:
Selected Soundbites:
- Julia Roberts (1:42)
- Patrick Bergin (1:48)
- Kevin Anderson (0:50)
- Joseph Ruben (1:19)
- Leonard Goldberg (1:34)
Theatrical Trailer (1:47)
Except that the runtimes are NTSC (e.g., Roberts' interview is 1:46, not 1:42) and the interviews have Japanese subtitles burned into the video. Note that the trailer on my copy is presented in 4:3, while our review mentions that the trailer on the Blu-ray is presented in 16:9 in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Perhaps that is an authoring error on the Blu-ray?

Anyway, full disclosure, the film seems to have first been released on Japanese DVD in 2002 and went through several priced-down reissues, notably in 2008, which is the year on my copy. However, according to the JAN (UPC) number, my copy is a 2015 re-release which was exclusive to Tower Records Japan here and is still in stock as of this writing. I'm guessing the product was manufactured in 2008, because that is the date printed on the disc and jacket, while the original printed-on JAN code has been skillfully stickered over with a different one, which I can't remove without damaging the jacket. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this DVD was available new at Tower, but you would have to use a reseller or a forwarding service to buy from them anyway. None of the DVD editions are available at Amazon Japan right now.

Here is the first Japanese DVD from 2002. Another user had previously added a priced-down reissue from 2005:

The picture quality of the DVD is pretty bad, enough that I will probably give up watching it and find a cheap Blu-ray. I know the Blu-ray is the cut US version and has only 5.1 sound, but the Blu-ray caps look much clearer.

Damn shame you can’t buy the uncut version anywhere on blu. I might have to create an uncut HD version editing in the censored sex scene in SD. Roberts getting pumped against the wall is quite hot, as you’ll see in Gav Salkeld’s video:
