Basically the suit alleges that by purchasing exclusive licence deals with leagues on their sport games, EA was able to overcharge for said games while stifling competition.

To this I would have 2 questions:

- Exclusive licensing deals are all over sports, how is this different?
- Are EA sports games more expensive than non EA/ sport games ? (i.e. more than $59.99)

There's another thread on this:

Hoping something comes of it so we can see other NFL games.

Doubt it.

That was my question too, aren't EA sport games the same price? I don't buy them so I don't know, but this sounds like another meaningless lawsuit to me...

It could be (and probably is) about DLC. Isn't EA Sports charging for things like roster updates? I'm going to guess that that's what this is about.

You can track the core of this lawsuit back to the last generation of NFL football games, a generation in which Madden was catching up with the critically acclaimed 2K Sports' NFL 2K series. This was before those exclusivity deals, so there was open competition, primarily from 2K. This spat reached its apex in a series of price-slashing maneuvers in 2004 when NFL 2K5 was being offered at an agreeable $20 price point and Madden 2005 was at $30. In the year following, the NFL and the NFLPA inked an exclusive agreement with EA, preventing the sales of brand new football games from anyone besides EA. This is a deal that’s still in effect now, which is why we have no more NFL Fever titles and instead get games like Backbreaker in their place.

EA Sports has exclusive rights with the NFL until 2012 I believe, and their games cost the same at $59.99.

I always get scared as all hell when I see my email and it says something about class action lawsuits. Luckily, it hasn't been for me yet

Ahh... I thought it was until this year, and they extended it a year to 2012.

By then I think I'll be done with video games (Madden).
