Default $400 Budget

I'm looking to upgrade my onkyo 606 to a receiver with preouts, accessories4less has the marantz 5004 for $350 and free shipping. Should my search stop there? I don't care about that 3D nonsense. Love to hear some input.

Thx
Mark

just curious, why do you want to buy a receiver with pre-outs? how quickly are you planning to buy an amp? which is why I assume you want the receiver with pre-outs? Are you planning to upgrade your speakers?

Yes to the amp, which I will get after the receiver and yes I'll change my speakers eventually.
I need a new receiver in the house for my living room, so I'm planning on just upgrading my HT receiver and using the 606 for the living room.

I was going to say the Onkyo 807 or 707, but the prices went UP on those models??? I got my 707 for $420ish shipped... a year ago... I saw it drop to the upper $300s... Amazon has it for $604... used???

Anyway...

That site does have the RC270 for $419 plus shipping, but it will take you over your budget. The only thing I would say about the Marantz is one of the series (I think is the "004" series) was having some problems if I recall. It maybe the "003" series. I would search before purchasing. I was going to get a Marantz a year ago, but the only ones in my price range had problems.

The 5004/6004 series were the problematic models with the pop of death issue. I believe this problem was corrected later in the cycle and there haven't been any reported problems with the refurbished models. The manufacturer refurbs are probably the safest bet since there are some new older stock still floating around. Accessories4less is very good about exchanges from what I understand too. The RC270 is another good option as well. If the OP is looking for something brand new then the Yamaha RX-V667 is available on Amazon for $410 shipped as well.
