Just wondering when the first player is due out.
Right now I think Samsung is going to be the first to release in Canada. They were suggesting sometime near the end of June. see here: http://www.bluraylive.com/_forum/viewtopic.php?t=2 Will Sony have one out before then? If so where can we get it? G |

I believe Samsung's player comes out June 23-25 and Sony's should come out at the end of August. I can't wait either. Been hungry for one since I first heard about them!

Samsung - 6/25
Sony - 8/15 Pioneer - either 6/25 or as late as November based on who you listen to ![]() Panasonic - September So it does seem quite likely the Samsung will be first. That should give Samsung a lot of sales that they otherwise wouldn't have. |

I hope your wright NYG, however for a 1,000$ I think the majority are going to go whith the 500 Toshiba, and than wait for the PS3. I did read a report that Samsung and pansonic are not happy about the PS3 cost and might delay the release of there players, I just dont know what to make of it? If I were Panasonic and Samsung I think I would be upset as well to be undercut by half the price of a Blu-ray player, take a look at this article It says Blu-ray might not be coming out this summer!

My point was just that since the Samsung may be the only option available at launch it will sell, whereas if say the Sony was available at the same time most people would probably buy it instead. You are right though that many will wait for the PS3 but those aren't really the early adopter types. EA's will not wait six months, a lot of them will be buying the Samsung. Just as with HD DVD, no one is waiting for a better player to come along. I realize the price is a big issue but and surely Samsung realized the PS3 wouldn't cost more than their player does. It's up to Samsung to lower the price of their player, something which I'm quite certain they'll do when the PS3 comes out. In the meantime they'll be counting on winning the support of EA's like me.

I just don't have much confidence in Samsung.
Frankly speaking, I don't view them much higher than I do Toshiba and LG. Have we yet to see Samsung make a good DVD player? Their track record has been downright abysmal in that regard. The 840 and 940 series, just for starters. It would be nice to see them come out with a solid product on this front, considering how critical it is in terms of a successful launch and timing (first out of the gate if it holds)...but, I'm not sure I'd bet the house on them. |
