Australia Gladiator - 2 Disc Definitive Edition Metal Slip

^ Click for database entry

I was surprised to see this release doesn't have a thread of it's own so here it is! The Gladiator Metal Slip was one a group of Metal Slip released by Universal in 2009.

The Metal Slip features an embossed title and helmet and has a fantastic weathered look. It's an impressive title when seen in person! The Metal Slip comes with ratings logos, however fortunately they are translucent and are stickers so they can be removed. For those unaware it features the original Gladiator release - not the remastered disc. It can however be exchanged for the remastered using the current exchange program.

This was available for purchase at all Australian retailers though stock is now dwindling and it can be very difficult to locate. Available on the second hand market. Well worth it though if you are a fan of these great collectibles.

Some stores may have some around but for all intents and purposes it is now OOP. I've assisted some people on the site in getting this one as tracking it down now is quite difficult. Unfortunately now the only one remaining in store in my area has severe damage so is not suitable to buy.

Hopefully some other Australian members may be able to chime in if they're aware of locations still selling it. You could always try posting in the "I'm looking for....." SteelBook thread and seeing if anyone can track one down for you.

Thanks for the heads-up and info. Will start my search for a copy as soon as I finish ordering all my current steelbook wants. Definitely going down on my to buy list for now

P.s. Great pictures as usual! Dslr setup?

I was in Big W Blacktown the other day, and they had close to 10 copies of Gladiator in the steel case, they have them in a glass blu-ray display case where they put their more expensive blu-ray titles.

The thing about that is, they don't fit properly into the cases so they have to shoehorn them in, inevitably damaging the covers.

Sorry, missed responding to your post in my last one. Yes, it's a DSLR. Just cheapie as that's all I could afford though. Canon EOS 1000D.

I don't have a fancy setup with lighting rigs and a dedicated studio. It's amateur hour with me behind the camera. I just like it as a hobby and it's something I've gotten into a bit more in the last 12 months or so.

All my photos in my galleries have been taken on my dining room table. I lay some white cardboard down which has preset placement marks on there for consistent photo angles and ease for editing. I then shoot in natural light for a nice neutral photo which seems to work well when it comes to editing. Then it's batch processed, loaded into Photoshop and about 5 mins to crop, tweak levels and erase the placement lines.

It's a bargain basement approach, but it's all I've got.

Here's a before and after just to demonstrate the difference between the natural photo and the finished product:

Regarding the Steel Cases, I highly recommend them. Visually they're great to look at. Universal has released some fantastic ones here in Australia and Gladiator, although not quite as rare as some just yet, is IMHO definitely one of the more striking ones. It doesn't have the bold red of Smokin' Aces or Inglourious Basterds but it looks pretty damn classy in person.

I just bought the remaining stock the store had (they had 8 left but 2 of the steel cases were damaged so I bought the other 6) for members who want this, 2 copies are already reserved by members so that leaves 4 copies I have available for sale, PM me if u are interested. All 6 are still sealed (2 copies have small tears in their plastic seals) and are in perfect condition.

Please note that these editions contain the original release of Gladiator not the remastered editions, but the movie discs should be able to be sent off to universal under their replacement/exchange program. I will post up photos in a couple of hours. Any I don't sell will just be going back to the retailer where I bought them for a refund.
