Default Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend...August 2011

Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend Blu-ray

Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend Blu-ray Review

Just saw that this obscure 80's title will be receiving some sort of Wal-Mart exclusive release in August.

I remember seeing the film when I was 13 or 14 or so, and thinking it was ok (for some reason, when I saw 1989's Arachnophobia, I was reminded of the general feel of Baby) - I'm surprised it is coming to Blu. Hopefully this means some other 80's Disney films - The Journey of Natty Gann in 2.35:1 for example - may also make their way to Blu. Natty Gann hasn't been seen in North America in its original aspect ratio for almost 30 years. It's a fine film. Natty Gann, Tex, Never Cry Wolf, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Return to Oz...bring them to Blu. Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend? On Blu? Well, if it means the door is cracking and other obscure 80's live-action Disney films are coming, so be it.

I believe this one is already released by Wal Mart this past week. Some already have copies and confirmed it is in its OAR 2.35:1 in 1080P.

It's a Wal-Mart exclusive, available now. Everywhere else gets it in August.

And another member posted it is 2.35:1.

This is one of those films I remember seeing at the theater (and enjoying) as a kid, but found it unbearably boring as an adult...Glad it has received hi-def treatment for those who want it, I'd imagine fans must be overjoyed...

I liked it. I thought it was cute. If the price is cheap, I'll grab it.

My local Chicagoland WM had several copies in a $5 Blu-ray bin along with some other mixed titles, including the Jim Varney "Ernest" films (also released recently by Mill Creek). And while I didn't purchase it, I can verify that "Baby" is in fact 2.35:1, as stated on the back of the cover insert.

I watched this film over and over again as a kid and even recorded it onto VHS. I was a dinosaur fanatic, so a good family adventure movie about dinosaurs was a big thing for me.

I remember watching it as a kid too. It's funny I got it from netflix a few months ago to reminisce and it's weird how I totally didn't remember certain parts of it (like some of the beginning, probably because I didn't understand what the scientists were talking about) Patrick McGoohan (Braveheart, The Phantom) though, I immediately remembered even before I saw it again, great actor!

I still got teary when
[Show spoiler]Baby finds his father dead in the water...just his neck sticking out and the crows picking bloody pieces from it, then he nuzzles his father's head )

Goldsmith's music always stayed with me too. It kept the film from being cheesy and gave the dinos some gravitas even when the puppeteering looked a bit stiff or wobbly. I won't be buying it, but I wonder how the transfer is.

I don't know about beating down any doors... but I had imported the R4 DVD (for the proper aspect ratio) and I'm happy to upgrade to HD for $5.

What's the issue?

Just realized this last part of your post ...think you need to relax a little bit...there's no need to get all frustrated over the distribution rights to a movie that probably won't get a Blu release for several years, if ever...

I'd recommend setting an alarm clock of sorts, to wake you up after you fall asleep watching it...

Never seen this movie. I have heard of it and might take a chance at $5.

I also would love Natty Gann on blu-ray.... however, it looks like these titles from Mill Creek do not include any Walt Disney releases. These all look like Touchstone releases (yes, I know that Disney owns Touchstone), but do not look to include any films from their other branches. I would say that "Splash" is a good candidate for their release.

Correct. If "The Journey of Natty Gann" comes out on Blu, it would be through Disney, and considering Disney's incredibly poor output of live-action titles thus far, I'd say it's highly unlikely we'll see that one anytime soon. I too enjoyed that film, though it's not one I'd probably purchase.

I am well aware of the distribution arms of the Walt Disney corporation, thanks. I am also well aware they've used outside distributors to release "Walt Disney Pictures" and "Walt Disney Productions" and "Touchstone" films in the past - I own several Anchor Bay DVDs of 80's Disney films. By doing the same with something as obscure as Baby, I HOPE that leads to the BRD release of OTHER obscure Disney films REGARDLESS of their intial distribution title card.

I swear to God...some days...

Looks like Kino has a re-release of Baby coming in February of 2018. The original release seems to be be there for pretty cheap still. Curious.
