Work at BR Blockbuster store in Lincoln, NE
Default Blockbuster may start selling BD's

At work the other day, I noticed we have two copies of Fantastic Four: ROSS on order for rent, and two for sale.

I'm very excited as I've been worried about how well Blu has been renting at the store. Ordering movies for sale can't be a bad sign.

And if we get them, I'll buy one of them to help show that it will be good to carry them. I think it's a good idea for some people looking to buy to check with BB and buy BD's from them if they start to carry to help spread the Blu.

FYI - the price in the computer (which sometimes changes from order to receive) was only $19.99! That's amazing considering it's not any more than the SD version in the computer.

$19.99? that has to be a glitch. I wouldn't be surprised if they kicked it back saying it was an error. if they start to sell used blus I will take notice, but they rape you for new prices. still its a good sign that they are supporting blu.

Yea, That sounds strange, when my wife worked there the prices were always wrong until the week before the launch date. There movies are usually 10.00 higher than retail anyways. I remember the sd version being 24.99 there and wal-mart having it for 14.99...........Needless to say they didnt sell.

For sure. I can't even see them selling the DVD for $19.99. Blockbuster doesn't usually go much below suggested retail.

It most likely is. It'll probably be at least $24.99 on release day.

In response to Tron3, unfortunately there's no way BB would set up a BD display in their stores. They're pushing it, but they're not going to invest that much money X hundreds of stores. BB isn't rolling in the money like they used to be. Netflix...I'm looking in your direction!!

And we're not going to be selling used BD's anytime soon unless we just get rid of renting them. We only sell used stuff if we have an a lot of titles that don't rent. Right now the ONLY movie at my store we've got more than one copy of is Casino Royale (2).

If we get it, it'll be the Tuesday before it comes out and we'll know the real price by then. I'll post it here. And if I can get this info, I'll post the store number and location of every Blockbuster in the country that sells BD's.

Remember the days when places let you rent a player? If they rented out a few players, that could entice people to buy their own blu-ray player. In the least, have an in store demo. Not everyone gets out to BB and CC.

The two blockbusters around here have tons of BD in stock now. I wouldn't be surprised if they start selling them too. Even used ones.

YES! It would be great if Blockbuster started selling their used BD discs. I love buying marginal flicks on the used market like that.

Thats part of the reason I have over 400 DVD's. Can't beat 4 for $20.

It was only recently Hastings stopped hardware rentals actually[ well 3 or 4 years ago ].

It's just not worth, especially with the current formats. Pretty much, we could anticipate a system breaking, or becoming unusable after, an average, of 4 rentals.

Now, due to the nature of things, it was extremely difficult to prove who broke it [or if it got broke in the store]. It sucked, all around.

Now, get those stores to get a nice big 40in HDTV screen and start running High-Def promo pieces. That'll be more likly to produce interest.

Could the $19.99 number be Blockbuster's cost? (Meaning that's what they buy the BD for).

BD's and HDDVD have been in stock since they were available for rent (Canada). Haven't bought one from BB yet but I rent the ones I don't want to buy.

If only my blockbuster would actually start renting blu's. If the price of that is $19.99 i might have to check it out, but I doubt the BB close to me would have any to sell since they dont rent.

It would be nice if BB would start selling BD's but given their high prices for SD releases ($22.99 for an SD of 300?!) I would assume the BD prices would be astronomical.
