Its a dandy of a flick.... caught me offgaurd when I rented it years back. I actually bought the Dutch import a few years back but its great to see this available here. Everyone should have this title in their collection!

It can be rewatched -even when you know whats going on because of the tremendous atmosphere you mention. Just a damned solid film.

Sounds like it may be worth a blind-buy. I've seen the original and liked it quite a bit ..

Never read a synopsis of "The Others" so I always thought it was just a remake of the above. My mistake, obviously 2 very different movies except for the 2 kids part.... looks like a decent blind-buy I'll be picking up..

'The Other' is an amazing Movie, Wish more peeps would see it, Would look stunning on Blu too. Don't think Fox will ever put it out though

I hate to be negative but....I don't understand the love for this film. I thought it was the most boring and one of the worst films I have ever seen. IMHO of course.
Kudos to those of you who like it. You've seen something I haven't.

Great performances, fantastic production sets (with a very low budget to produce), clever ghost story, suspenseful at almost every corner, a great drama in general, engaging characters. What more could you ask for? On my first watch I was "Eh" but by my second viewing I became acquainted with its characters and story.

For me, this was a throwback to the old Alfred Hitchcock style thrillers of the old days. It had a story that was character-driven and it took it's time building on those characters, which built to a CHILLING climax and a hell-of-a-ghost story. Great twist ending that caught me off-guard and a WONDERFUL performance by Nichol Kidman.

Those kids were creepy as hell and the comnflict between the young girl and her mother was nail-biting. It was a bit slower paced, but it built on suspence until it finally delivered.

WONDERFUL story-telling.

Thats OK. We all go through that with certain films too. Plenty of other stuff to watch. No worries.

last time I saw this, there weren't HDTVs. So I watched it again on Sunday. It's a fantastic movie but there really should be a new remastered BR. The old one has so many speck and scratches it's distracting.
The audio would lend itself so well for a new Atmos mix.

Miramax licensed The Piano to Criterion so I have a sneaking suspicion The Others could follow suit. We'll have to see.
