Lets hope for a decent transfer and some nice extras. This is a classic movie that deserves good treatment.

You know how people complain that we never get great films at the same time, or even before, the US does? Well this and Airplane prove that's not always true (unless a US announcement is soon to come). Both are classic comedies, and PT&A is one of my all-time favourite films, so I'll be picking this one up. Bit annoyed that I bought this on DVD only six months ago, thinking the Blu would still an insanely long way off, but I only spent £4 on it, so I guess it's not that bad. Hope it's a great transfer, to my knowledge Paramount may be slow with their catalog titles, but they do good work on them.

Surely it must be an improvement on the DVD version? is it ruined totally like Predator UHE?

No extras? The blu or the DVD? The blu has plenty of extras, including the 'Voice of a Generation' and 'Legacy' docs, both of which are a must.

Yeah exactly, some great extras. I thought the PQ was good too.

As this my favorite movie of all time I've bought way too much versions (2 VHS, 3 DVDs and finally on Blu) and although not perfect the BD-pq is by far the best. I also second the praise for the bonus features... although they were already on the US-SE-DVD

I disagree I love this movie and love having it on blu ray, mediocre transfer or not. It's got some good extras and the movie is five stars. I didn't own the DVD so this was a no brainer.

Well, as it's the only choice on Blu-ray right now, what's the option? Yes it's old and has DNR, but it's still the best looking version out there, with some good extras, and it's cheap. I've enjoyed many viewings of it over the past few years, why would I want to watch an even worse looking DVD version instead?

As Above I'd pay the asking price just for the extras but seeing as I didn't own the movie on DVD it was a no brainer. Especially as the UK DVD has no extras. What's the alternative, not own the movie at all??

As you would put it I couldn't help but go fit it lol.

I meant go buy it, not sure how that got there. The alternative would be to boycott the release by not buying it until it gets the treatment it deserves but as always no one is prepared to do that.

Yes, but by doing that, I would have been stuck watching a crappy DVD version for years, instead of being able to enjoy a flawed, but far better presentation. For me, life's way too short for things like that, when the disc only costs a few quid. And if a better version comes along, I'll grab it ASAP.

Even if a bunch of us boycotted it, the average guy on the street would still buy it anyway, and we would have made a miniscule difference in sales. If Paramount wouldn't even remaster the Star Trek films (apart from Khan) for their 50th Anniversary last year, it's a pretty good bet we'll be waiting quite a long time for a remaster of this.

Then Paramount would stop releasing catalogue titles all together. However sadly I think that is what they have done. I can't remember the last catalogue title that they did release here.
