Default My never finished home theater....

I guess I will finally admit that I can never be done. I just added a new Oppo BDP 95 and a VPI Classic 1 turntable. I had to do a little rearranging to make it all work. New pics on my gallery. By the way, they both sound fantastic.

That Oppo 95 I love the looks of. My 93 is due to arrive hopefully next week. I prefer the 95 looks but for my usage and setup it would have been a waste of $500 more. The new additions are look great. How does it sound? Any more planned additions?

The Oppo 95 sounds fantastic. I replaced a BDP 83 SE NuForce with it. Listen to 2 channel music a good bit and that was the reason I went to the 95. The 2 channel analogue presentation is astounding. The multi channel is great too, but the 2 channel stereo music really is amazing. I know this is not an inexpensive machine. But when you consider the top shelf performance for multi channel BR movies and music as well as a CD player that really, really is ultra fine.... I think it is a bargain.

The turntable still has me holding my mouth open in amazement. This is a treat beyond my wildest expectations. Close your eyes and you are there. But since this is a Blu-ray forum, I will not gush too much here about that.

Next target for me will probably be an upgrade to my 2 channel amp. AVA has just released a new Fet Valve Hybrid that has my mouth watering.

I will be using my oppo 93 for 2 channel music on cd/dvd-a/sacd and it might never be my blu-ray player. I'm going to use run optical from my 93 to my Naim dac that I just got. That dac is over 3 times the price of the 95 so the analog benefit of the 95/$500 increase doesn't apply to me. I might just buy the 95 someday regardless and move the 93 elsewhere. The 93 looks good but the 95 just wins me over in design appearance.

I've notice in many home theaters that's been posted on this website, most people remove the grills from their front main speakers. Is there any particular reason why? Because, I always leave mine on!

Nice Setup!!!! I have to go give the Salks a listen real soon. I just recently found out I don't live too far from the guy.

Some speakers, the grill will make a difference in the audio sound. The difference with that sound with the grills being off or on is something the owners have to decide if they like or not.

If you are asking this question because of the gallery, some people take pictures with the grills on and off or/and both. It’s just for the look in the gallery, it’s rare for the audio quality, but that is an option.

Most folks want to see the actual speakers. I have found that if I post pics with the grills on, I get lots af requests to post pics with them removed. I will also say that having the grills removed does make a little difference during critical listening.

nice looking setup.

I was reading in Stereophile about the VPI classic, and the one they are reviewing right now. It made me want a VPI TT, however I think it would be a little overkill for my setup. Is that a Lyra cartridge?

hey man, its your thread gush about your TT all you want.

Thanks for the kind words. The cartridge is a Benz Micro Glider S High Output moving coil. It still needs some break in, but it is sounding great. Mids, highs and bass all are excellent. Sound stage and imaging are incredible. I went with this cartridge because my phono preamp is internal to my AVA Star and it needs a signal of at least 1.0 mV. I also wanted to try a MC cartridge vs the MM. With the Glider, I could get a MC cartridge with a great reputation and reviews, get the signal output my preamp needed and still get the MC. No regrets on either one...the turntable or the cartridge. I have never owned a Lyra cartridge, but I sure read a lot of positive stuff about them. Doubt you could go wrong with one. Thanks again.

Hi ls7z06, Looks like you have the best of both worlds of Audio. Great gear for both two channel and HT duties. That turntable looks awesome and with the addition of the Oppo 95 you have both the digital and analogue spectrum covered. Thanks for sharing the new pics.

I have never heard a Benz Micro cartridge that i know of, but Ill take your word. I have a Pro-Ject TT that is in for some maintenance, but its getting an upgrade at the cartridge also to a Grado Blue1 cartridge. Im dying to get my TT back and get some more records spinning. I use the MM carts because right now I am simply using my Integras internal phono amp. I plan to upgrade the phono amp soon, just not sure what I want to get. Bellari is high up there as is the MF V-LPS. Im hoping in a couple years once to upgrade my TT, I want to get an Integrated Amp and get both surrounds and an Oppo 93 which will dub as my CDP also. The pro-ject was a small investment cause I figured I didn't want to lose to much $$ if I didn't like having vinyl. But now I really like it, so I regret not getting a better TT.
