As reported earlier this month by Blu-ray.com, in 2012 independent distributors Kino Lorber will release a number of classic and cult European films via its newly created "Redemption" label. Among the first films to transition to Blu-ray will be French master Jean Rollin's erotic vampire films The Nude Vampire (1970), Shiver of the Vampires (1971), The Iron Rose (1973), Lips of Blood (1974), and Fascination (1979).

To promote the upcoming Blu-ray releases, Kino and Redemption have launched a new site with promo clips from the restored films.

Redemption Films on Facebook

-- All five releases in the first wave are set to be released on January 24, 2012.

-- The releases will not have slipcovers.

It was just announced that RAPE OF THE VAMPIRE, REQUIEM FOR A VAMPIRE and DEMONIACS will be released on blu-ray May 15th via Kino.

These are very niche titles that aren't even being stocked at most stores. I can forgive a little print damage. It's kind of a miracle titles like The Iron Rose got a BD release at all, and all things considered, they look good.

dvdvbeaver.com lists Lips of Blood, The Iron Rose and The Nude Vampire as region free. I think its safe to say all the Rollin films are Region free. However Redemption may have a different contract for Killer's Moon and Virgin Witch so those may be region locked.

Out of the films released so far I'd recommend Fascination for a beginner to start off with.

After checking out "The Living Dead Girl" on netflix instant the other night I went ahead and picked up the following blu's from Redemption:

* The Asphyx (not Rollin, but in the same wheelhouse from what I've read)
* Lips Of Blood
* Killer's Moon
* Virgin Witch

Needless to say I'm hooked on the Rollin films I've seen and can't wait to "spread the love" around for more Redemption titles in the future.

Don't wanna offend you or anything, as I'm sure you already know this...but you know the latter two aren't Rollin either, right? You mentioned Asphyx wasn't, but didn't mention it with Moon and Witch.

Virgin Witch is not like the films of Rollin. The whole point of that movie is to show the two actresses (sisters in real life) naked. You're not likely to find a more sexist film with more gratuitous nude scenes on Blu-ray (which is probably why the sisters have disowned the film). It's so obvious that it's almost funny. The horror element is actually very minimal (and so over the top it's also funny) and there is none of the dreamlike imagery you'd find in a Rollin. The movie is an excuse to show some attractive birds in their birthday suits.
