I hear this is getting a digibook...

Probably my favorite war film of all time, along with Grand Illusion (if one considers that a war film). Admittedly not a genre I'm huge on, but I'm certainly looking forward to this release and am glad to see some Golden Age Best Picture winners coming to blu.

Anyone ever see the restored version of the Road Back, the 1937 sequel? Library of Congress restored the supposedly original version back in 2016 that Universal had screwed up to placate Nazis. https://www.loc.gov/item/event-39489...37/2019-04-27/

Yes - I saw this at MoMA. It's interesting but not a patch on the original film.

Ze germans are getting a brand new "Im Westen nichts Neues"-Ultimate Edition with several cuts (5x BD).
Capelight tried to scan it in 4k but weren't happy with the results.

Sources:
- Main source: Old Universal HD master
- Alternate / new footage: german 35mm print

- German 1930 dub (103 mins)
- German 1952 dub (127 mins)
- International version (133 mins)
- New extended version (141 mins) with never before released footage from one of the german versions (+ 8 mins)
- German TV versions in SD (tinted, silent)

The specs on their website show German and English subtitles for the 'long version' and the international theatrical version, cool! Assuming the additional footage is German language only, hope we get the option of English subtitles for just those extended bits.

Never knew there was additional footage. When was it first transmitted/ shown?

Seems like a title Universal will eventually release on 4k.

Have ordered a new copy of the 2018 release in standard packaging from Amazon. The Blu-ray. And received the DVD in a BD case.

Twice. Seems like a Universal error not Amazon.

Also curious is that both times the DVD isn't the version that I assume was included in the Best Picture Winners Spotlight Collection DVD set which streeted (according to the site db) in March 2012. I think it's safe to surmise that set included a DVD version of the BD that was released in the standard packaging one month prior.

In other words, that DVD would include the "Silent" version of the film. That supplement is not on this DVD. ~~Based upon the menu artwork, it looks as though they're not just taking the 2007 "Universal Cinema Classics" DVD and putting it in BD packaging, but that~~ packaging lists Bonus Features that aren't on the disc.

This mispackaging has now happened a third time, this time with an order placed with Universal's distribber Gruv. They've got a mispicking issue at the plant.
