I made this thread based on a poster suggesting it after I had done a overrated actors thread. The actor I have always loved most but never heard much acclaim on is Gary Oldman even though I have seen him in many movies. I love how he has had such a strange range of characters. The 1st Time I saw him was in Dracula, then True Romance as that Drexel guy and I wouldn't have known he played Dracula or Drexel unless someone had told me. Then his awkward character in The 5th Element. I like him 2nd most in the Potter series. But the movie that I didn't like his character in but loved his acting the most in and I really took notice to him was when he played the bad D.E.A agent in The Professional. He stood out to me so much in that movie. Another actor that I love to watch is Liam Neesan.

Damian Lewis comes to mind for me. He was so awesome in Band of Brothers.
I also think Orlando Bloom is underrated. Now, I know he's been in a ton of big movies, but I'm not sure his acting talent is appreciated. Others: Paul Bettany (has one of the hottest wives on the planet) Ben Foster (his Xmen role was awful but he's the scene-stealer in 3:10 to Yuma) Barry Pepper (so underused - maybe because of that John Travolta movie debacle) |

Paul Bettany can deliver a monologue better than almost anyone on the planet (see: A Knight's Tale). Unfortunately, he doesn't often pick great movies to star in (and when he does, he's the voice of Jarvis), and Michael Fassbender is fast sliding into where Paul Bettany could have been had he made different choices.
Bad choices include: Legion, Priest, Inkheart, Wimbledon (he still does well as an actor in these but the movies fall flat due to other factors, usually scripting/screenplay issues) Positive choices include: A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander, A Knight's Tale, Anything with Iron Man (as voice of Jarvis) Unfortunately his positive choices never brought him enough acclaim or recognition to vault him into a more positive public viewpoint. |

Ezra Miller - A young, versatile actor who doesn't get nearly as much respect as he deserves. His performances in We Need to Talk about Kevin and The Perks of Being a Wallflower are prime examples of his immense range.
Juno Temple - The girl is amazing in almost everything she has done. She always manages to give her characters complexity and depth no matter what she is given to do. She always seems to fly under the radar though for some reason. Logan Lerman - Another Perks actor. He's underrated because he's been in some awful films but he's shown he's a solid actor that could blossom into something special. His mature performances in Perks and 3:10 To Yuma are examples of his incredible potential. Garrett Dillahunt - He's one of those actors who has definitely been in something you've seen but you probably don't know his name. He's played multiple supporting roles in great films. He has a calming Southern demeanor that always gives his minor characters depth that they might have had otherwise if other actors have played them. His performances in Winter's Bone, Jesse James, No Country For Old Men, and Deadwood speak for themselves. Emile Hirsch - He's been in some bad films but his performance in Into The Wild should have scored him at least an Oscar nod. It's one of those tour-de-force performances in which he brilliantly pulled off every possible human emotion in an exhausting yet admirable peformance. For some reason it was completely ignored. He's always great in The Girl Next Door (underrated coming-of-age sex comedy), Milk, and Taking Woodstock. |
