Trying to decide on a projector and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a big difference for the 2 since there is a $1000 + difference between them
Thank you! Last edited by twilightfan; 03-15-2012 at 11:47 PM. |

In the light scenes you properly wont notice much difference. It's in the scenes were dark elements are introduced you will see it the most. Edit: Error on my side. looks like the picture quality/skintones is still improved. Although i think not as much as in blacks..there the difference is the biggest. The difference may look a bit like this. -> Home Cinema 8700UB vs. Epson Home Cinema 8350 Last edited by spaceape; 03-01-2012 at 06:33 PM. |

I've owned both. I now have the 5010 and love it. The 3010 is a great projector, but if your a videophile, you need to go with the 5010. Blacks are night and day better on the 5010. Color is better, detail is better. If you have the coin go with the 5010. Like the other guy that responded to your question, the picture with the 8700 vs 8350 is definitely accurate how the 5010 and 3010 would look side by side.

Surprised no one has said the 3010 doesn't offer any lens shift, that is a huge difference IMO. I'm also curious why neither show being able to do 1080p/24, an error I would hope

I'm in the market for a 3D projector, but one critical must have for me is for it to have Anamorphic Lens support. You can tell that it has it, if you are able to squeeze the image left and right (makes everything look skinny with black bars on the left and right of the screen). I checked the 5010 users manual but could not find it. I would appreciate it if someone could confirm that it does not. Thanks.

The 5010 model does not support an Anamorphic Lens, although the Pro 6010 does (That is $4000 however). Quote:
If you still want to go with the Epson 5010, I might look into investing in a 3D HTPC, which depending on the gear and research online can allow you to make settings for V-stretch in 3D in the PC. You should be able to get a better value over the Pro series. |

You could still grab the Epson 5010 or 5010e as long as you feed it with a Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray player. That player has a stretch mode for anamorphic lens included in its zoom settings.
Quick edit: I'm not sure how many projectors will do vertical stretch WHILE at the same time doing 3D. That was questionable even on the JVC. You may have to go the HTPC route or get a Lumagen processor do both at once. I'm not sure of which if any have that ability with this years current crop of projectors. If anyone can verify the Panasonic or any other model doing both at the same time throw it up here, because I'm curious as well. Last edited by Flatnate; 03-15-2012 at 06:10 PM. |

Another critical issue is using subtitles with the 3D mode, granted I do not own an Oppo 93, I'm going to assume subtitle placement issues with 3D are going to reflect the v-stretch mode feature. God knows why they would put subtitles in the black bar for 3D though, so I wouldn't worry too much. The JVC RS45 does allow V-stretch support as well as side-by-side 3D support (The RS40 lacks these), and the only consumer grade projector (I can think of) advertises this. BenQ usually advertise their projectors with V-stretch, although I don't think they directly mention if V-stretch can be done with 3D (I'd be shocked if it didn't), so I'd try look up for that. Also (Mr. Fattbill) the JVC RS45 does support lens memory feature akin to the AE7000, although it's limited to three custom lens shift settings compared to the AE7000 or even 4000. Otherwise it's just as useful as the Panasonic projectors. |

They are also sorting out some new firmware issues. They released it, only to take it back off the market. |
