IMMORTALS - US vs UK release

The UK release has been confirmed as cut by the BBFC (rating lowered from 18 to 15), can anyone with the US version confirm the runtime? I'm guessing Universal have released the same version everywhere as is their normal practice

UK runtime (with cuts): 110m 34s (18s of cuts)

The UK only has the 18s of cuts.....The US was not edited and says 110mins

Yes, 18 seconds of cuts, but there are an extra 18 seconds of replacement shots.

Censorship in any form is still censorship. That link is hardly a justification for the UK treating their citizens like infants.

It's not censorship. It's the BBFC saying 'you can release this as is with an 18 certificate' and the studio replying 'ok, well we'll make cuts to get a 15 rating so that we can make more money'.

Last time I checked, every other country has no problems with the added 18 seconds of footage being exposed to their citizens without an 18 or R rating. The BBFC is saying "our citizens are too fragile and infantile to handle this material."

That is what is FORCING the studio to make the cuts.

Well you could say that about the US as well then: How many films have been cut to avoid an R rating? Quite many.

And in Germany it is even worse. UK seems more liberal than most countries in that regard with their age ratings.

Walking dead season 1 is also cut so is I spit on your grave (new version and old) i think UK is more fragile towards vioilence while US is more fragile towards sex. But they still dont cut up home video releases like UK and germany do.Which is really there loss because if they really think more people is gonna buy a censored version they are sadly mistaken

I didn't think so. But it turns out I was wrong about that. Now it begs the question as to why the studio didn't bother just letting the 18 rating stand and release the uncut in the UK. So, it is the studio that is censoring their own work?

Is it possible that the BBFC told them that they wouldn't allow the film to be shown in the UK with an 18 rating? Thus, putting the studio in a position of having no choice but to cut it? That is the only thing that would make sense to me behind the studio cutting their film just in the UK when they are fine with the uncut version being R/18 everywhere else in the world.

It's quite obvious what the reasons behind it are. The BBFC said they would release it with an 18 certificate. The studio didn't want that as they can get more people in the cinema with a 15 certificate and so chose to cut the film. It's got nothing to do with censorship and everything to do with making money.

Have Universal released the same version in all countries (they normally do), or the US version the equivalent of the UK '18' (uncut) version?

If it's the same, then the BBFC's reach is extending beyond the UK borders!

I'd like to know this too...I want to decide if to get the US version (no region code right??) or the UK one. I don't want a cut version if possible.

Apparently the US version is uncut, but the disc is Region A locked. Not a problem if you have a multi-region player!

I really dont see what the big deal is about 18 secs... I mean it prolly takes longer if you get up from the couch and walk to your kitchen. This is my opinion, i just dont see what the big deal is about 18 secs, you can prolly only say a sentence length in that time

18 seconds can completely ruin an entire movie. It may not sound that long, but it doesnt have to be 18 seconds in a single scene.

I gave this example a while ago,

But lets imagine Predator being cut for 18 seconds.

Examples:

1. the scene where they find hopper. Just like the tv edited, billy opens the leaves and then....nothing. A few seconds sure, but what a scene that was cut right?

2. All the violent kills the predator makes cut.

You can keep on going....notice how each of those scenes can be just a few seconds in length? Now to me that would be huge. It would be called, Predator: Care Bear Edition.

Censored and cut version of movies are absolutely pure junk and garbage. There is no arguement, not even price point that can make justification of it. That's like going on 2 roller coasters, where the one you experienced here in NA had a great loop and the one in the UK took that out because they thought it was too scary. Otherwise they are the same roller coasters and advertised the same except in the fine print. I'll be sure to demand a refund at Guest Services for the cut one though.

Essentially the UK edited should be called, Immortals: Care Bear Edition actually....
