Default speaker placement for a noob

I'm getting deftechs and wondering where I should place them, and my tv, to decide which walls I'm painting really dark blue




I'm getting these speakers

but with a lava subwoofer

dno If i should go 7.1 or 5.1

also my tv is a 50 inch panny gt30

Is there a door to go in and out of the room? Where the door is would probably dictate what options you have available.

You can put your TV and front speakers agaist wall 10 and your seat a few feet away from wall 11. The surround speakers can go on the side walls. The following two threads have helpful diagrams for placing front and surround speakers:
