Default Guitar Hero III

hi,

my brother just got the 2nd one and i enjoyed it more then i thought i would and i'm looking forward to the 3rd...i have a few questions i was hoping someone could help me with b/c i've been looking online and can't find answers...

will the guitar hero III guitar control and ps3 work w/ the 1st 2 games? b/c i know you can't use the control from the 1st 2 on the ps3 but i was hoping w/ the new wireless remote that would solve that problem as i would like to get the 1st 2 for the ps2 w/o having to spend the money on the ps2 guitar.

would the rock band guitar control work w/ all the guitar hero games if so shouldn't i just wait and get rock band and then get the guitar hero games seperate since rock band is gonna be 200 dollars?

if someones already asked this sorry i went back a bit and didnt see another post....

if anyone could answer these questions i'd be thankful as these games are wicked expensive and i am on a limited budget.

Have not heard about backwards compatibility with previous Rock Band games, that is a good question. My inital guess is that they would work, hell PS3 controllers work, just a matter of buttons... I would be suprised if they where not backwards compatible.

As far as cross-game compatibility, this is a little more tough, as although the games may read the buttons the same, the buttons themselves may not be the same on each guitar.... I am sure you will be able to use guitars on both game, but I doubt that all the buttons will be the same.. so if you hit yellow on a GH3 guitar, it may be hitting a different cord on the rock band guitar.. although I am not 100% on that either..

Yes the Rock Band Guitar will work with GH3. The creators of Rock Band have confirmed this numerous times in Game Informer, EGM, Joystiq.com, etc.

And by the way, I am getting both. Woot. I am a drummer, which sealed Rock Band for me. Already have them both Pre-ordered. The only downside is that Rock Band comes out on Black Friday. Hopefully I don't get mugged trying to get it.

Awesome, thank you...I was just a bit confused and wasn't sure about those extra buttons.

Since the guitars are interchangeable, I will most likely be buying both games then. Originally just GH3

That's a good question and I almost asked the guy at Gamestop. I only stopped when I realized he probably wouldn't know what the heck I was talking about.

Hey mate , from what iv'e heard it looks like the Guitar hero 3 won't work with the old ps2 games.

Since Rock band and guitar hero 3 are made by different people its up in the air currently if the ps3 controller will work with rock band.

sorry i don't have any goods news.

I've never owned a Guitar Hero game but I'm planning on picking up part 3. To those who have owned and played past versions, I have some questions about the franchise.

1.) I understand how the different levels/tiers of songs work. However does the game allow you to customize your setilist? Like can you take songs from tier 1 and 3 and make a custom setlist?

2.) Is there a way to incorporate setlists from previous versions of the game into the new game?

3.) Can you customize your band's look or it's stage show? I'd love to be able to be in control of things like adding and animating lights, props, pyro, etc.

4.) Are there any downloadable songs that you can add to the already given setlist? It would be awesome if you could download entire setlists of one particular group or artist instead of constantly having to perform a hodge podge of songs from different bands. A setlist made up entirely of Iron Maiden or ACDC would be awesome!

While I've enjoyed GH, GH II and GH 80s, I've decided to end my run here. I was looking forward to GH III and Rock Band, but the cost has me thinking twice.

If it were backwards compatible, I may buy GH3. But if not, there's no way.

Besides the basic tiers in the game, I don't know of any option of setting up playlists or something similiar. But I'll try to answer everything else:

1.) Guitar Hero I and II do not have this option, there is no mention of it being available on Guitar Hero III

2.) The Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II allowed players to download the songs from previous games. There is no mention about this on Guitar Hero III (although it's a feature I'm hoping for)

3.) Guitar Hero I and II only allow you to pick your guitar player. No mention about this in Guitar Hero III

4.) I would imagine the downloadable songs will show up in your Bonus tracks...unless there is a Downloaded Tracks lists.

The Guitar Hero III controller will be compatible with Guitar Hero I and have limited functionability for Guitar Hero II and the 80s Encore (motion control might not work for star power, you'd have to press select).

No idea on this one, but to my knowledge, the Rock Band controller will not be compatible with any Guitar Hero games. Also, the price tag on Rock Band has been lowered to $170. I would love to see the Rock Band controller work for Guitar Hero.

Anyone considering GH3 should seriously think about Rock Band instead. It's more expensive but 100X better. I played it last Wednesday at a PS3 Holiday Preview Event and it blows GH3 out of the atmosphere and beyond our solar system. Within 5 minutes I knew that I had switched from buying GH3 to Roack Band. Plus, the Rock Band guitar is bigger and more realistic looking. Much better quality. Not some rinky-dink looking children's toy.

Unless you want to buy both!!! And, from what the EA reps were saying, the GH guitar will work with Rock Band, but they don't know if GH3 has incorporated Rock Band instrument functionality into GH3. Obviously, EA doesn't have the GH3 software to test it out either.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the Rock band controller to work with GH3? I don't think it would even be feasible to use the GH3 controller with Rock Band because Rock Band has the additional buttons on the neck near the body of the guitar.

So GH3 controller: not enough buttons for Rock Band (can't use it)

Rock Band controller: hopefully be able to use with GH3 because there are just extra buttons.

Lots of misinformation in your posts!

First off, it has just been confirmed that the controllers for GH3 and Rock Band are interchangeable. That means you can use your Rock Band controller for GH3 and your GH3 controller for Rock Band.

Those extra buttons the Rock Band controller has are simply for show. It lets you look like you are actually playing a solo and are completely optional. They are the same 5 fret buttons that are on the top.

As far as backwards compatibility goes for GH1 and 2. GH3 controllers do work for GH1 and limited for GH2. As someone mentioned above, starpower can only be activated by pressing select.

There is no news about Rock Band controllers yet, but since the people making Rock Band made GH1 and 2, and the fact that they have stated many times their controller will work with any similar game, it is leading many to believe that they will work just as good, if not better, than the GH3 controllers on the older PS2 games. Sadly, this is still speculation though.

Do you have a link to where we can see this confirmation? I'm not rying to put you on the spot to make you look bad or anything, but I have not heard it was confirmed for both to be interchangeable and I would like to see which website broke this news.

I am a bit turned off by Rock Band's price. Not to mention that the songlist is absolute weaksauce compared to GH3's songlist. Besides that, I am not in a position to be playing with a bunch of people. I'm a loner when it comes to gaming aside from a very rare occasion of online play. I did like hearing what you said about the guitar being bigger and more authentic looking. I would like to see Guitar Hero take a cue from that.
