Wonder if this will be another Dazed & Confused...

A Universal release followed by a Criterion release 2 months later

Even though Anderson is one of my favorite directors I am boycotting the theatrical release due to the horrible release schedule of the film. Very excited to see the film though and hope the Blu is packed with a commentary and documentaries.

I mean i wont support this by driving 50-60 miles and pay money to see it when it does open "near" me at the closest place that will eventually get this when it should have been to those theaters weeks ago. I will just wait a while longer for a Blu release. It has taken obscenely long for this to open in a big city like Columbus Oh for how well this has done, cast, director, etc. This isn't like its the 4 hour version of ONce upon a Time in AMerica re-release or something.

You mean... It is boycotting you? That is what I feel like. I'm pissed about not getting this movie in KY yet but I certainly won't be boycotting it.

Darjeeling Limited went straight to Criterion. Not sure if that means it will happen for this one. I would love it if they released Life Aquatic and this together.

I agree with this.. Such a shame that it's receiving a lot of praise and they still are shuffling their feet with a much wider release.. It's either really stupid or really smart, making us wait with foaming mouths while we read positive reviews with increasing anticipation. I also don't really like how some are referring it to "this year's Midnight in Paris".. What the h#ll does that mean? It seems to be a typical Wes Anderson movie to me, which means really good.

No it didn't. Fox did the intial release in 2008, then Criterion came out with their's it 2 years later.

Overrated, but still charming. I would probably place it above Aquatic and Darjeeling, but below all others. I've loved Wes and his work for nearly 15 years, met him when Rushmore came out, and saw Tenenbaums 10 times in the theaters (I was 23, deeply depressed, and living alone at the time). I even have the original BOttle Rocket DVD autographed by Wes himself, so I'm assessing his latest film as a true fan who's very familiar with his entire filmography. My main issue with MK was that the writing and the way it's delivered still feels too choppy and unreal. I can handle the myriad other stylistic flourishes, but I still feel let down by his inability to let the characters breathe and express themselves genuinely.

I know what you mean by this and I sometimes feel the same way. The theatrical nature of the dialogue adds a bit of distance and you can't always feel as close to the characters as you might like. However, as we know, that's kinda Anderson's style.

Despite this, I thought Moonrise Kingdom was one of the more accessible Anderson pictures - it's engaging and fun, with great characters. In fact, the biggest unheralded success of the movie is that he got such Anderson-esque performances out of the child actors. They completely fit in one of his usually adult-dominated worlds.

This is finally playing at my local theater, so hopefully I'll be able to see this soon (because it looks fantastic). If I don't get the chance to, though, this will definitely be a day 1 purchase because it looks so intriguing.

I was able to see this this morning and I absolutely loved it. I'll definitely be getting it once it's released

Saw this twice in theatres and definitely picking it up first day. Wes Anderson can do no wrong.

Fantastic Mr Fox is a good movie! But if we're not counting animation, yes Rushmore was his last best work.
