![]() A few select quotes from web link above: “Watching television received with an over-the-air (OTA) antenna is not going away as fast as some might have predicted in this world of subscription services and IP delivered (OTT) content.” “According to new research by industry analysts GfK Media, the number of Americans now relying only on over-the-air (OTA) television reception increased to almost 54 million. That’s up from 46 million just a year ago.” |

Makes sense for the broadcaster themselves to provide OTA content. Revenue generated by commercials (as much as I hate commercials) goes straight into the broadcaster's pockets instead of being split up with the subscription service providers.

We’ve had OTA TV since I’ve moved out of my parents house.
The only channels I miss are ESPN and comedy central. We have enough movies on blu/dvd and tv shows on dvd to keep us entertained when there isn’t anything on local tv to watch. |

If you have an Xbox 360, Espn3 is a great source for Sports. The video quality is much better than using a web browser. During the Fall, College Football ABC, NBC, CBS, Raycom Affilates, OTA and in HD. ESPN3 Coverage as well, and in HD. BCS Bowl Games, ESPN3 and in HD NFL on CBS Fox and NBC, OTA and in HD Baseball can be viewed on ESPN3 as well but not all games. Same goes for NBA. Tennis, Broadcast Networks in HD plus ESPN3 So you can watch a lot of sports programming without the need for Cable or Satellite, but yes there are some limitations, especially coming from Account based subscriptions for stations like TNT where you have to be associated with a Cable or Satellite Provider. |
