United Kingdom My Steelbook Hope Is.......

....To eventually replace all of my purchased amaray Blu-rays with Steelbooks. Basically I love them so much that I want my entire Blu-ray collection to be Steelbooks, I'm done with amarays! Thanks to Play.com for their recent catalogue releases I'm on my way yippee! Of course they'll probably be a few titles that haven't been released as a Steelbook anywhere in the world but I'll just have to corner them to one side or banish them to the bottom shelf. Also love that trilogy's and quadrilogys are being released in steelbook now, I already have Jurassic Park 1-3, Matrix Trilogy, Alien Quadrilogy, and hope to get Bourne Trilogy and Indy 1-4 before the year is out. Now one question: WILL SOMEBODY PLEEEAAASEE RELEASE STAR WARS ON STEELBOOK. I think 2 seperate trilogy steels would be awesome - 3 x prequel discs plus a bonus disc and 3 x original trilogy discs plus a bonus disc - hey we have 4 disc spaces available thanks to the guys at Scavano.

If you have a decent sized collection I'd say at least over half of your collection will still be Amarays.

I only buy steelbooks if they fulfill the following things
The movie must be a movie I like
They must not be ridiculously overpriced
Most importantly, the artwork has to be better than the amaray which it usually is but there's been some movies where I've prefered the normal cover to the steelbook one.

I'd really like an American Psycho steelbook but unfortunately they've only made amaray so far.

Although i like steelbooks i don't think i'd like all my amarays to be steelbooks. There are some movies that are real 'crap' if you know what i mean. I purchased those at like £2.50 etc and the steelbook most likely would be much more than that for a mediocre movie. Artwork might be nice or horrendous just like the movie.

If i had to say which titles i'd buy steelbooks for, it would seriously have to be big release catalogue titles. Stuff like Star Wars, Matrix etc. Not the mediocre movies like Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li. I think i'd rather they keep em for big titles and if they have to, please give it some brilliant artwork.

Plus, if you release everything and anything in steelbook like the other thread says, you kind of lose what makes a steelbook special. They should be reserved for well liked titles etc, not the likes of movies like The Human Centipede. Was shocked that even had a steelbook.

You'd need a fairly decent bookcase/storage system if your collection was all Steelbooks. Amarays are plastic and relatively light. Steelbooks on the other hand, weigh a fair bit more.

I currently have a wide tall Billy bookcase from Ikea wherein one shelf (and also slowly extending onto the second) of seven (eight including the base) is solely Steelbooks. I would think the unit wouldn't like it very much if the whole thing was filled with Steelbooks.

As much as I'm starting to dig steelbooks, there's no way they could take over my collection.

1) They're just (overall, and compared to amaray) too damn expensive.

2) I feel this would diminish the value of them. Right now, one of the ways I justify buying them is, "Man, I love this movie so much, I'm getting the steelbook release too." Having a steelbook version of virtually everything in my collection would eliminate that line of logic entirely.

Steelbooks are nice and all but it would take away their uniqueness if that's all there was in one collection IMO.

Every movie I want I want in Steelbook.

I want Starship Troopers in steelbook because I like the film. I could care less about its sequels being steelbook as they are crap movies and I wont watch or buy them.

I'm really loving the artwork of steelbooks. They are like mini movie posters without all the additonal lines of text and unwanted crap..

A cover of a steelbook is like the theme song to the film. They're a perfect pairing IMO.

Sweet thread resurrection.

Personally I've gotten into steels hard since the lot of 20 BBY steels was released. I dig the collector aspect of buying them, but I think most of all I really enjoy the alternative artwork on the covers for some films. I just picked up Paul and Chronicle steelbooks for that reason, and Toy Story as well. Regular artwork steels aren't quite as appealing to me.

As for having my whole collection be steels, I don't know. As others have pointed out, it'd be a lot of money per film and it kind of takes away the specialty factor if everything has a steelbook.

Alot of money??

Not really.. once mass production takes place..they will be as cheap as regular blurays..or slightly higher..

I am not a collecter.. I only buy movies I like and watch. I don't care about the person who buys 5 editions of Battlefield Earth or 3 editions of Land of the Dead.. and then complain they have no money because steelbooks are to expensive.

I will not buy a crappy movie just because the steelbook is sweet. I can control myself. There are people here who buy movies and never plan to watch them. Or blind buy straight up garbage.

If steelbooks become reasonable in price..they should offer then for every film. The buyer should have the self control and money wit to chose what they want.

We shouldnt suffer because some degenerate has to buy every film 10 times over to feel good about themselves.
