I'm finishing up Max Payne 3 and I plan on picking up a new game to play. I plan on either getting Skyrim or Heavy Rain. I've never played either game and as far as RPG's go, I don't really play them. But I've heard so much about Skyrim, that I'm curios. However, I've read some people claim that both games can be boring. Right now Heavy Rain can be had for $29.99 and Skyrim is hardly ever on sale. Right now BB has it for $59.99. Can some of you tell me which game is better in your opinion?

I find the story of Heavy Rain terribly silly and the game has an inane control scheme. Also that one dude stares straight ahead when he walks down the stairs. I'm convinced he's a robot. I'd rather watch a good film instead.
Skyrim is fun, if repetitive. A common Elder Scrolls trait. The quests aren't particularly varied. The combat generally leaves something to be desired, but sword and shield can be amusing. And, of course, the biggest issue is that if you play it on the Playstation, you may eventually get to a point where the game is literally unplayable. I'm helping. My S/O isn't fond of video games, but there are only two games she has actually watched me play.
Heavy Rain and Uncharted. She was actually mad that I advanced through an hour or so of Heavy Rain without letting her know so she could watch the story unfold. She would stop what she was doing and watch me play as if she was watching a tv series lol. I had such a great experience with Heavy Rain, although I will say I didn't want to play it over again when I finished. I cheated and watched all of the endings on youtube. |

Excellent choice on both those games. I would've picked Heavy Rain over Skyrim as well....although they are entirely different games. Skyrim is a bit too open for me.

Skyrim only really opens up if you have tons of time to throw at it. If you're only looking to play it for 10 hours, it's not actually a very good game in that context because "most" of the fun stuff is actually in the side quests and randomly hidden locations scattered all over the place. Personally, I find the combat mechanics in Skyrim to be enormously tedious and boring, and the game world, while expansive, has a sort of sameness to everything, due in large part to inadequate voice acting.
Heavy Rain is one of those games that people either love or hate. The QTE control scheme is fine; what most people complain about (with some justification) is the walking mechanics of actually getting your current character around a room. It's definitely awkward. Both are "good" games, but they have their flaws too. Personally, I'd say to heck with both games and go get a copy of Mass Effect 2 instead. Since ME3's been out a while, the price of ME2 should be very reasonable now. |
