I have a projector set up with a 92 inch screen. Sitting too close can induce the "screen door effect" especially on lower resolution projectors. The best site for projector reviews if you are interested is http://www.projectorcentral.com/home.cfm.

If you want a good priced HD projector I suggest the Acer PH530, I have it projecting onto a 9 foot screen...it's great.
http://www.buy.com/prod/acer-ph530-d...203388289.html $712 It's only 720p, but still looks absolutely amazing, comes with all the cables you need (hdmi, component, vga) has a good remote too.. I would suggest this projector to anyone. |

For that 1000 dollar price range, may i suggest: http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sanyo-PLV-Z4.htm
Native 720p, but will accept the 1080i signal as well. Hope this helps. The next model up can be found for 1100 and has an increase in contrast and accepts 1080p signal. Last edited by reellis; 10-16-2007 at 03:45 PM. |

But, if its for say a kinda-cool set up in a kid's room for say, a Wii (they aren't HD anyway), I'd say the was a good deal. |

With around $1000, if you need bright, the Panasonic PT-AX100U (or the new $1299 AX200U - basically the same, but further optimized for gamers The Sanyo is sharper (PLV-Z5, but much dimmer). On the DLP front, the two top low cost performers are the Mitsubishi HC1500 and Optoma HD70. The Acer - someone mentioned the PH530. I'm reviewing that now. It's low cost, but if you have those extra couple hundred $$$, you can do better, still not a bad product at all. But here's the GEM. On our site, one of the dealers is advertising what I think is a closeout - it's the Optoma HD7100, which first started shipping a year and a half ago., selling for close to $4000. These guys are selling it for $999! It's got a Darkchip3 DLP while all the competition is Darkchip2, so it has a big advantage in blacklevels and contrast. And, it has lens shift, drastically improving placement flexibility. it has a 1.25:1 zoom, (most DLP are 1.2:1), only a tad better than the competition, but no match for the LCD projectors with their lens shift and 2:1 zooms. Still a major improvement compared to the other dlps. And it's reasonably bright, measuring almost 500 lumens in best mode. Anyway, I think it may be the best deal in town. Here's what I wrote about it about 18 months ago, when it first came out: http://www.projectorreviews.com/optoma/hd7100/index.php Thanks, -art |
