Yes. The Anchor Bay release of part 1, Lionsgate release of part 2 and Universal release of Army of Darkness are all worth the upgrade.

Many people complain about the heavy DNR Universal slapped on Army of Darkness. I think it looks amazing. I still hope one day a version will be released with the deleted scenes and the alternate ending receiving a 1080p upgrade.

Agreed. I still have the director's cut on DVD, so those two discs together are pretty much the definitive Army of Darkness package.

I only own the first one on Blu-ray (I'm holding out in the hope that the sequels receive better releases) but it looks fantastic. The grain has definitely been preserved and it looks very natural and film-like. I say upgrade!

ED2 already got a better release.

Oh don't bother. You KNOW they'll release this one again, probably by Halloween of 2013.

Definitely worth it. Just make sure you get the 25th anniversary of Evil Dead 2 and not the earlier, inferior release

I own the first two.

My Evil Dead Blu-ray has both the new widescreen crop plus the original full frame (which is how it was actually filmed, so this is the better version) version in HD. Then you get a DVD with all kinds of extra features. The movie looks to amazing on Blu-ray that it is very hard to say that it is not worth having.

The Evil Dead 2 25th Anniversary Edition also looks amazing, and has a lot of new extras. It can be found cheap at Walmarts so it is very worth having.

The only Evil Dead film I have not purchased on Blu yet is Army of Darkness, and that is because I own the DVD that has both the Theatrical and "Official Bootleg Cut" of the film. Until a Blu-ray offers both cuts of the film in HD, I will not buy it.

Just remember when buying that the Bonus DVD was only for the Limited Edition version of Evil Dead which is now virtually impossible to find.

If that is the case then you can still get the disc, since it has both prints of the film in HD as long as you find it for a reasonable price. The film is definitely worth having in HD.

But you can buy the 3-disc DVD set which has all the same features (and more) for extremely cheap.

I'd love to see Shout/Scream Factory do AoD with fully-restored alternate cuts, new extras etc. but at the same time you can find the current release for less than $8 at Wal-mart. It's now the red-headed stepchild of the trilogy HD-wise but even so it simply isn't the abomination the Anchor Bay ED2 was.

Simply put AoD could be better on Blu but it's easily worth the price it goes for now.

I actually think AB's EDII BD looks better than the AOD BD. It's a waxed-over mess with tons of DNR, but I prefer that over the heavy EE and sun-baked vomit look of the latter. Neither looks good, but if I had to pick my poison, I'd rather have a BD look like the former.

I asked Shout! about releasing it and Cliff said he'd love to, so maybe with Scream Factory releasing some other Universal titles there's a possibility for this to happen, ideally with both cuts and hopefully the additional deleted scenes taken from a film source.

Evil Dead (Elite Collector's Edition DVD)
Evil Dead (2-disc BD)
Evil Dead II (Book of the Dead DVD)
Evil Dead II (Lionsgate BD)
Army of Darkness (Universal Theatrical DVD)
Army of Darkness (French BD)

That's all I need...got rid of everything else.
