Default Vita won't turn on/charge

Hey everyone,

I'm stuck in Germany with a bricked Vita. Basically I was playing MGS2 (downloaded from PSN), I paused the game then tapped the power button to put the system to sleep so I could return again in a moment. I picked up the console a couple minutes later (maybe 15) and when I hit the power button nothing happened. The system had a full charge when this started.

I've tried everything, holding the power button, holding the PS button, holding both, holding the PS Button, Power button and right trigger for 30 seconds etc etc. Also when I plug in the charger the PS button does not illuminate orange or blue, there is no sign of life at all.

Like I said I'm in Germany on a business trip right now (different power currents are the only factor I can think of, but I've charged it successfully over here on this trip a couple times already), so I'll call Sony when I return home but if anyone has any advice to bring my Vita back to life before my 11 hour flight home, I'd appreciate it!

Wow that's weird.

Might sound stupid but make sure you plug the cable in the right way as you can put it both ways but only one way we'll actually charge your PSV. Sony logo up.

Yup. Took me a couple times before I figured this out. Sort of a bad design decision from Sony, to be quite honest.

As for why the Vita isn't charging, did you for some reason use a standard plug adapter without voltage changer? That could possibly have fried the circuitry, since Germany uses 220/240V power, whereas we here in the US use 110/120V.

I gave that a shot, just to try anything, but no luck. I didn't think that would be it because I hadn't changed the power cords or how I was charging it before, but worth a shot. I think my system just crapped out on me. Not a huge deal, I'll have someone look at it when I'm home, it's just frustrating it bricks on me when I have a long flight with nothing to do. Doesn't seem to be a widespread problem so I can't fault Sony for this one, I hope it's relatively cheap to repair.

have you tried holding the power button for VERY long, like one minute? I had a freeze and not knowing what to do I held the power button for maybe one minute, it restarted , with the factory settings I seem to remember
I just read that you can also hold : right trigger + PS button + power button to enterrecovery mode

Just a little update in case anyone else runs into my issue. I called Sony and they ran me through all the trouble shooting attempts (holding power for 30 seconds etc) and when nothing worked... they said they can send out a box to ship my console in for repair. It seems like it's going to be covered under warranty, but I'm not sure if they were being lenient with me because I have a press unit.

So anyway, the system just bricked.
