Default Deadly Blessing (Collector's Edition) - 1/22/13

Deadly Blessing

No official release date announced as of yet, but I'm assuming a December release, along with possibly Phantasm II, with Prince of Darkness hopefully paired with They Live in November.

I hope Cliff and Co. got to talk to Ernest Borgnine about it before he passed away.

Unfortunately, "Prince of Darkness" is not apart of the Scream Factory line... yet at least. I really hope they can get there hands on that one as well but in the meantime there's been no information other than the first batch announced. In addition, there's also the "Death Valley" / "The Island" double feature to look forward to in this line-up. It was originally announced as being a DVD release only but I think they were rethinking it so there's always the chance to see those on Blu-ray still.

Looking forward to Deadly Blessing on blu-ray!
Yes! We need Prince Of Darkness on blu-ray. One of Carpenter's highlights!

I'm sure that Prince of Darkness won't be released this year from SF.Next year...likely.If Uni were ready to relinquish They Live or Halloween films, why not PoD as well?
Check this fine looking HD broadcast caps of PoD

Rooting for the The 'Burbs too

I don't think Shout Factory has confirmed that Deadly Blessing is in fact coming to blu-ray, yet.

No worries, it's been confirmed. The only title that may only go the DVD route is "The Island" / "Death Valley" double feature but even that may change still.

Right, but I'm assuming/hoping they continue to release two titles per month, meaning that one more disc is still due in November. Prince is a Universal title and it would make sense to pair it with their other Carpenter release.

Default That's Sharon Stone...

In the poster. It took me forever to figure that out.

I get this mixed up with 'Deadly Friend' for some reason. Maybe because their both by Wes.

Never heard of this, but that cover art has me intrigued. I watched the trailer that was posted and I have to admit it looked really cheesy. Will anyone recommend this as a blind buy? I'm a big Wes Craven fan, especially his older stuff.

Big Wes Craven fan but never heard of it. Shame on you.

Curious to find out what special features this will have.

I know, in my defense this film was a bit before my time (born in 1979, so I became a fan starting with the Nightmare On Elm St. series)

Hmmm... blind buy? I like the movie, but I'm not sure about that. You might want to rent first.

The movie itself is OK. Not amazing, not terrible. I find it very watchable.

The best thing for me is the cast:

Ernest Borgnine - who always brings it, and this is no exception
Maren Jensen - little-seen actress outside of the original Battlestar Galactica, but I could watch her all day.
Sharon Stone - most people focus on this, an early performance from Ms. Stone
Jeff East - young clark kent from 1978's Superman, who I don't think I've ever seen in another role...
plus Lisa Hartman too.

I like it, had it on VHS until I replaced it w/a Region 2 DVD. Looking forward to getting it on BD.

And Michael Berryman too -- can't believe I forgot to mention him.

If you like your 80s horror, I'd call this a pretty safe blind buy. It's a terrific little movie. Admittedly there's a big nostalgia factor at play for me but it's got great atmosphere and three stunning leading ladies, especially Maren Jensen.

Just as a goofy aside, I usually watch Deadly Blessing as a double bill with Sssssss starring the original Starbuck, Dirk Benedict. Although filmed some years apart, they're both pretty low key, rural horror flicks with some pretty spooky shit in them and play like a night at the drive-in.

Does anyone know if Scream Factory blu-rays are generally region free?

Unless you've seen TOM SAWYER: THE MUSICAL and THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (spoiler: he played Huckleberry Finn).

Saw it tonight on Netflix -- standard def and cropped . Hadn't seen this since I saw (and loved it) 30 years ago.

Boy, do standards change as you get older! Seeing it now it's a silly, illogical mess with everything thrown in but the kitchen sink. I admit it was a very fun mess -- campy, energetic, lots of pretty women -- but what a cheeze-fest. Trying to decide what my favorite dum-dum "shock" was -- either the
[Show spoiler] coffin full of chickens (!?)
or the
[Show spoiler]demon that pops up through the floor
in the last shot.
