Default Moonrise Kingdom, anyone go see this yet?

Saw this last night with the wife. I won't divulge any details about the movie but let me just say... one #$@ing weird film! My wife loved it! I actually walked away not knowing HOW I felt about it. The narrative is just so bizarre compared to what I'm used to seeing. The reviews of this film are incredibly high which is why my wife and I chose to see it. However I just don't know. Somtimes I think reviewers love to praise all things quirky and unconventional regardless if it's actually any good or not. Well sorry but I refuse to partake in such pompus cork-sniffery. Like I said, I'm honestly not sure if I liked it or not but I THINK I hated it! LOL!

Have you ever seen any other Wes Anderson flicks? The very first Wes Anderson flick I saw was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I was a sophomore in college, and after walking out I felt almost the same feelings you were feeling, I wasn't sure whether I liked it or not. Upon revisiting it I found that I loved it, and it got better with each viewing. He definitely makes films that are out of the ordinary. Most of his movies I've seen I have adored since then, including Moonrise Kingdom.
I would recommend renting maybe one or two of his other films, just to get your feet wet in the quirky world of Wes Anderson. You may find that you love his films, or you may keep your initial reaction and dislike his films.
His best films in my opinion are The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I have yet to see Rushmore or Bottle Rocket, and I was lukewarm with The Darjeeling Limited. Hope this helps!

I thought it was too quirky for quirkiness's sake and that this hampered the character development. Thematically, it reminded me of Tenenbaums the most. My two favorites are Rushmore and Life Aquatic in that order, though.

Yeah all his films are like that. It's definitely an acquired taste.

But I think his movies grow on people. Some people will flat out hate his movies because they're so "quirky", especially people in the Criterion Collection forum.
I think even though his films try to be really quirky and weird, they do have a lot of heart inside and really lovable characters.

I personally think this was Wes Anderson's best film since The Royal Tenenbaums, and it's a lot more accessible than his others. I was unimpressed by the trailers because I personally felt like they were trying too hard to be weird... but I warmed up to the film instantly when I actually started watching it.
