I stumbled on this. Then I drooled on myself. Just might have found gold.
Evidently a company named Passmorelab based out of CA took Romero's original Night of the Living Dead, cleaned it up to high quality, rendered it into color, then converted the entire film to 3D. Here is the link to the site: http://www.passmorelab.com/films/cult/NOLD/ If this was done correctly, consider me sold. I couldn't however find a stereoscopic preview anywhere on the web (though there are a couple previews for some of their other films that were filmed in 3d). I've emailed asking if this would be available for purchase anytime soon or if they would be interested in sharing a stereoscopic preview to the public, once I hear back I'll definitely share the response. The project from what I can gather was completed in 2009. Fingers crossed people, what a fantastic movie to convert (provided the conversion was done correctly.......... ![]() More soon I hope! |

I'd be interested in NOTLD 3D in stereo 3D compared to the recent anaglyph Sid Haig version NOTLD 3D in black and white about ten years ago.
Of course it'd be nice if a percent of the profits were donated from the company to Romero, as he originally lost the copyright due to an oversight back before the copyright law was revised. I'd have to see how strong the 3D was before deciding. Also interested in Creature Black Lagoon 3D. OFF TOPIC: Yes, Carnival of Souls recommended in side by side view stereo 3D so you can watch it on your 3DTV instead of an anaglyph version with red/cyan glasses. For one guy converting the entire movie, I was impressed. Would also be nice if the side by side version was offered on DVD from Gaetano. Then just put it into your blu ray player, set your 3DTV to side by side and go. |

Side note Gae - I completely fell off my conversion project, it's just too exhausting. The irony is there are programs out there that can easily make everything smoother and faster but unless you're ready to drop 4-5 figures on software, it's not conveniently priced for your average consumer. And I don't sale the high seas if you know what I'm saying... Arrrgh, not my style, I like to buy lol.. |

Can I ask how you view your 3D JSmith82? The downloadable side by side AVI file of Carnival of Souls 3D could be burned to a disc or even downloaded to a USB stick and viewed if you have a Player that can read AVI files. Alternatively it can easily be converted to MP4 etc using freeware like Virtualdub or AviDemux. Zivouhr, Creature from the Black Lagoon has great 3D in it..especially the underwater shots and shots in the Grotto. You realize that it's not a conversion though don't you? This movie was one of my favorites when I was young, I swear I've probably seen it 30+ times. Owning a high quality 3d version of this movie would be a total treat for me. It's interesting that more companies have not taken the public domain films and released conversions of them. Seems like easy profits, and a great way to promote your conversion company.
Gae converted Carnival of Souls, you guys should definitely check that out if you haven't yet. I emailed this company from my work, my fingers are crossed I'll walk into a response tomorrow morning. Guess I should add I tried to call them as well today, but dead end extensions all around... Booo... |

They also have done Plan 9 from Outer Space. Would like to see how their conversions turned out.
Marketing wise if they have done a reasonable job converting these their best bet would be to release them both in a double bill package. That's what the people who converted March of the Wooden Soldiers and the Three Stooges should have done. |

They are still there, just revamped and face-lifted the original web site. I wish we had a local member to their location (San Diego I think?) - I'd be nagging them to go check it out in person lol ![]() |

I wonder if they're logging into that email account to check their emails. Or maybe they're filtering through hundreds of junk mails just to get to the real fan mail? Not sure, but I agree a response, even if it's late, is always good. |

I came across an old online newsletter for the LA 3D club which had more information about the intended release plan for this;

I reached out to Rifftrax to confirm whether they had released the 3D version, but unfortunately the release that eventuated was only the 2D colorized version. Quote:

The Passmore colorized 3D upconvert of Plan Nine actually came out nicely, judging from this brief clip (assuming it was sourced from Passmore) on YouTube:
.... but the full version of this and for that matter Passmore's NOTLD upconvert seem to have disappeared. |

I did notice a literal few shots that may have had minimal rotoscoping but the vast majority looked like a flat pushed-back autoconvert.
