Default "Where's Transformers on Blu-ray?" B&M observations

So I was off of work today and went to Walmart. To my pleasant surprise they had put a nice Blu Ray display up. But just like Target they had HD-DVD displayed as well. The good thing was there where 5 rows of Blu and only 3 of HD.

While I was looking at the display a woman with her 6 year old daughter asked the salesman "wheres Transformers on Blu-Ray?" The salesman not knowing the answer went looking for the movie.

I turned and explained to the woman that it wasnt released on Blu ray and her response was "You mean not yet? Everything is on Blu Ray.. isn't it?" and when explained how Paramount accepted the 150 mil bride.. She was obviously upset and ended up buying transformers on standard dvd.

Later on I went to Target in my area and there was a guy in his twentys asking the salesman there, where he could get Transformers in Blu Ray? The salesman not knowing the answer either (just like the guy at walmart) went looking at the Blu Ray display.

The sooner this war is over and HD gives up the better. These are people who are like MOST shoppers are unaware of the format war and just want their favorite movies on the best format possible.

PS I did see someone buy Transformers on HD while I was at target, prompting me to buy 2 blu rays. The Reaping and Reign over me.

Yup, I agree...it's the normal consumers who are getting hurt by this...and I don't mean in the wallets either.

It's just a matter of degrees.

I also picked up Transformers on DVD last night. Wife asked me why I didn't just wait for the bribe period to be over. I told her I bought the cheap DVD but I want to at least be able to watch the movie in the meantime. To make up for it though I bought The Prestige, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Terminator, Underworld, and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Somehow I felt cleaner after that.

Hey,

Where are you located. I just mentioned on another post that I had to stop by a target today to pick up some stuff for work and there were no HD-DVDs of Transformers. I even asked the clerk as there was no slot on the shelf (HD-DVD section) for the movie and it was not on the end display. He came back and said they were not getting it in on HD-DVD, just standard. I asked if anyone else had heard that?

Interesting that your store had it, but mine did not?

THe walmart that I'm talking about is in Middle Island and the Target is in East Setauket on Long Island. Both had Transformers on HD DVD. I saw someone buying the HD version at Best Buy, which is next to Target.

My Target expanded their hi-def section again, nothing extraordinary, but it makes me happy (10 columns of blu, 5 of hd-dvd).

I looked around for Transformers on HD-DVD, took me 5 minutes to find out that it was only one place for it on an endcap. So, that made me happy that it wasn't everywhere.

They had The Day After Tomorrow and Edward Scissorhands on blu though...if I don't get those at Circuit City this Friday then I'll be going back to Target after my next paycheck...

I didn't see any yesterday either. No spot. Another Store I went to (not Target, but a local store) had about 500 copies on DVD for $12.99 and no HD DVDs, not even a space for them that could have been sold out.

I rented Transformers from Blockbuster last night.
Every staff member had a Spider-man 3 10.30.07 t-shirt on.

i bought tranformers on dvd so i can watch it at work since it is the slow season now, but i am waitin for spiderman , and spidey pig to come out. Also last time i went to walmart they had 5 br titles and when i went back a couple days ago they had about 2x more. They only had blades of glory on hd dvd. I ended up buying surfs up for my daughter and casino royale for me and my girl, and dirt for my ps3.

I would suggest to Paramount to start the BR production of Transformers
because in 16 more months they are going to need about
4 to 500,000 copies of it on Blu.

I was asked that question so many times at work yesterday....but for some reason wasn't asked once where the hd-dvd version was....we still had like 30 or so when we closed yesterday...I think we had at max 50....prolly 45(as they are in boxes of 15)

From poking around, the big box stores ordered between 75 and 125 copies of the HD DVD(depending on location. SoCal and NYC were the high end, major metro in the middle, etc), of which many of them have only recieved 2/3 to 3/4 (Paramount is overnighting daily). The discs also arrived late so many places didn't check them in with everything else.

It definately puts at least 100k, probably more like 150 in play

My b/f is a Magnolia pro and we are both blu supporters but he is the more "level headed" in the relationship but yesterday he came home from work and told me that in his opinion HD DVD beginning of the end was October 16, 2007.

When I asked him why he told me that they had brought down the Toshiba's A30 players to the media dept. early in the morning knowing that with the release of Transformers that those less knowledgeable in the format war where more likely to have bought an HD DVD player yesterday with all the promotions and enthusiasm that was happening with the Transformers release.

But to his surprise and to an extent mine also he told not one single HD DVD player had sold but instead he had sold 3 Blu-Ray players during his shift.

On a side note his store is having the night crew on Sunday night expand the blu selection from 2 to 8 shelves
