Default Criterion Collection List - "adult films"

A Criterion Collector for over ten years now, I have just about all the blu-rays and many of the DVDs.

After having a child recently and trying to "child proof" the house a bit, I got the bug to weed through my criterions and pull out the "adult films" and put in a box out of sight. There are so many films I haven't gotten around to watch though.

I wonder if we could compile a quick list of all criterion films with a very "adult" them or scene. I am talking rape scenes, gratuitous nudity and sex, excessive violence and language.

A start would be:
Salo
Antichrist
In the realm of the Senses

I am not looking for a lot of commentary or reasoning just a list of films I would not want to come home and see the wife and kids accidentally putting in.

Also any films that would be considered more art fare could be added to the list ...I am talking By Brakhage, Hollis Frampton type stuff...as no interest to a child...Or non cinephile wife...
I also posted this in the main Criterion thread.

I thought most criterion releases were more "adult" oriented...

No, there are several films that kids can watch, and TCM has even shown some of them on the kids version of The Essentials. Many films on both DVD and BD are films I watched growing up with my parents (not Salo of course, but things like 12 Angry Men, Stagecoach, and The Thief of Bagdad).

I replied in the main Criterion thread already.

Let's not forget "The Red Balloon"

And my kids actually love Zanzi De La Metro too.

I'm not sure why Criterion films are being singled out when they're only a fraction of your collection and good deal of them aren't kid-friendly either.

When it comes to my non criterions, I have seen just about all of them, and took some of those out as well. Films like Shortbus, the dreamers, etc.

Also my wife is familiar with most of the non Criterions and knows that Brokeback Mountain and Pulp Fiction for instance not the best for children. So I was more interested the Criterions because she has not seen most of them and occasionally grabs one to watch if I am not home.

In any case, I was mainly interested in the most vulgar and graphic to weed out.
I don't care if he comes across a film like Commando, but I think he needs some film appreciation and become a young adult to watch a film like In the Realm of the Senses.

Thanks for all the suggestions, this has been a helpful thread.

put them on a shelf the kid won't be able to reach until a certain age. You don;'t have to complete G-ratedfy yourself because you have a kid. I saw a video awhile back that was animated but perfect, just because YOU have a kid doesn't mean that suddenly YOU have to stop enjoying anything that isn't family-friendly. You have no idea how many people I know who are parents that still enjoy things like South Park, Tosh.0, SNL, True Blood, Louie, etc... Just because they don't find it appropriate for their children doesn't automatically make them not able to enjoy it themselves. Same goes with movies... you shouldn't stop enjoying "adult" films just because you're a parent, just watch said movies when your kids are in bed. And plus, most Criterion titles aren't going to appeal to someone under the age of 14-15 anyways. A French art film that has an explicit sex scene isn't something to worry about, because the kid will see "French" and "art film" and be bored anyways.

Crumb probably wouldn't be a good choice for kids. Videodrome either.

I would imagine most kids today would not have the attention needed to watch a movie from the collection

Joking, don't start on me "my kids can they are not like other kids"

I know that some would not be very good for most young children to watch and they have already been mention, however I could see kids enjoying some of them.

I think a little kid would actually find the fact that kids are eating poo to be rather amusing. Just sayin'

That's what I'm thinking. We're talking titles that the average kid who wants to watch Finding Nemo and Ice Age would be put to sleep watching. For instance, Eraserhead is one of my fave movies, but while I understand why a kid shouldn't watch it... a kid will be asleep within ten minutes anyways.
