Default The SAW series vs THE FINAL DESTINATIOn series

Both series' last film tie into the first one in some way. If you could only own one series, which would it be: the SAW series or THE FINAL DESTINATION SERIES?

I love the fact that the SAW series is one continous storyline so you HAVE to see the previous films to get what's going on. That's very rare in horror. An actual storyline.

But I would choose the FD series. Seeing good looking young people dying in random ways makes me so tingly.

This is an easy one. Saw by a mile. I am a big horror fan and I actually like both series but Saw is damn good and I pretty much like everyone in the series. The first two Final Destinations were really good and the 3rd one grew on me but the 4th one was kinda weak. They did redeem themselves with the last one but to me there is no comparison between the two. We are talking about a horror franchise that goes 7 movies deep and doesnt fall off later in the series. Matter of fact u could say besides the awesome part one, that parts 6 & 7 are the next best films in the series. Got Em!!

Final Destination is a joke of a franchise with maybe two good movies in it. The first Saw is a horror masterpiece that transcended the genre and all the sequels are very watchable.

Saw has less crappy sequels than Final Destination

And Jigsaw didn't reach horror icon status but he came close

Huh? How can u judge and vote on a franchise but dont consider 2 movies out of the 5? It doesnt work like that. Thats like me saying Saw is better because the first Saw is a masterpiece and is much better than the first Final Destination. Its the franchises as a whole. Sounds u really hate the last 2 films in the Final series so if u include them which franchise would u prefer then? Got Em!!

Voted for Final Destination however was not a fan of the 5th film at all. Like the series more then Saw only really like Saw 2, 5 and 6.

Both series are absolutely terrible but Saw has Tobin Bell so I give the edge to it.

I love the Final Destination films, it's probably the only long running horror franchise were I enjoy every single entry, even the weaker ones. The films are like a Road Runner cartoons with gore and endlessly inventive in their Heath Robinson machinations of bumping off the cast. FD2 and FD5 are the best films and they are great sequels. FD2 because it builds on the mythology of the first one, 5 because it features a killer plot twist. These two also have the most likeable characters and some of the most inventive kills. FD3 & FD4 are weaker because they mostly ignore the previous films. They just repeat the formula of the original, but they do it well enough and when watched in 3D FD4 becomes considerably better, with fantastic use of the medium. The first films lies in the middle for me, with FD2 being the film which most fully exploits and explores its premise

I don't mind the Saw films or their "torture porn" violence, but as a series it very uneven with some real snoozers among them. I like the first three films, but then it gets wobbly. The thing I like best about them is that unlike something like the Friday the 13th or Halloween films, which are fairly identical slasher films, Saw comes up with some insanely convoluted continuity involving a cast of returning characters, which turns it into some sort of gonzoid gore soap opera. I initially watched them when they came out and completely lost the plot, so I re-watched the whole series over a week to make sense of it and there are at least a couple which I find incredibly boring.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. FD5 was a real step up after the mess of FD4. FD3 still gets some points from me because, although it's completely daft and there's no suspense at all, there are some standout death scenes (tanning beds and nail gun are BRUTAL), and I kind of liked the photograph idea.

I also agree about Saw in that, yeah, it's cool that the plot actually advances as the series goes along, but only in as much as a police procedural show advances. I think there are times when it just feels like a crime show on acid.

The Final Destination series was more consistent and fun to watch.

The first SAW was incredible, and the second and third weren't bad.....but it overstayed it's welcome after the 4th and 5th films.

Both series started well, Final Destination was a blast at the time (still is) while the second is good as well the third and so on lost their way.

Saw, was a fantastic film and I'd say one of the best horrors of it's decade. II was pretty good as well and then yeah same as FD it kind of lost it's way and became just about the traps etc. actually haven't seen the last 2 entries to the Saw franchise, not bothered if I do or don't either.

I think the best thing about the Final Destination is they're so good to watch with friends, even if they're not that into horror. As you said, they're a blast.

Saw (2004) is a masterpiece of the Horror genre. Saw 2 is really good. The other sequels descend into 'torture porn' and suck.

Final Destination is really fun, and inventive. Really enjoy Final Destination 2 & 3 as well but since nothing in the series gets close to Saw (2004) it wins in the end. Close battle though.

Easily Final Destination Series. The first 2 Saw films were really good after that it was all down hill.

FD by far. At least every one of em are varying degrees of a fun, good time AND knew when to quit. SAW was a decent movie that had 4 too many sequels and contrived accomplices and convenient flashbacks... Jigsaw was actually alright, though too late in the game, and Spiral I just can't give a shit about.
