Default PS3 In Game Music?

Hey People,

Quick question maybe you can help me with. I have been trying to get my ps3 to play music from its hard drive instead of the in game music while playing. I know xbox can do this, is there an option so that i can do this as well?

Rumour has it being in the next major firmware update...but that's just a rumour.

Not yet. A future System Software update may allow this to be accessed via the PS button menu. Game creators can already achieve it through their own menu system linking to a XMB styled custom soundtrack menu. See this thread for more on that system:

Mainichi Issyo already supports custom soundtrack options

I was impressed when I realised XBOX could do this a couple of years ago.

Even the Wii can do it from an SD memory card if a developer wishes. Although some gamers are very vocal about the feature, I'm not convinced that many actually use it so it's probably not that high on the list of value added features to include. As a system-wide feature like it is on the 360, the developer just needs to put in the right hooks so sound effects play over the top correctly, your music stops during cutscenes if that's preferable for the game etc.

When I had my 360 I only used that feature on racing games. otherwise I never really used it on any other games.

Oh BTW I dont miss it on my PS3.

I was the same - used to get those custom tracks going when hammering Burnout on the old 360. Although I don't miss the feature on the PS3, I think I'd like it to be there when Burnout: Paradise hits the shelves. Old habits die hard!
