United Kingdom The BFG - September 10th 2012

The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) - 10th Sep 2012

[Show spoiler]

HMV, Amazon, play.com, SainsburysEntertainment

[Show spoiler]My only worry with this release is if FremantleMedia have decided to crop the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1 (according to imdb at least) down to 1.78:1, like their The World at War blu-ray release.
I'm going to email them and ask.

EDIT: Apparently the original apsect ratio was 16:9, "directly from Brian Cosgrove."

I sorta remember seeing this when I was younger but can barely remember anything that happened in the film. Loved Roald Dahl's books and I think I remember I liked this film so I'll pick it up

Absolutely loved this film as a kid. I generally don't buy kids films anymore but I might make an exception for this.

I received a reply to my email today, stating that 16:9 is the original ratio;

Quote:
Thank you for your email.

The BFG was originally created in 16:9 as it was intended for theatrical release. However, for whatever reasons, it was never shown in Cinemas, and had to be cropped down to 4:3 for the television broadcast as 16:9 screens were not in production at that time. This information has come directly from Brian Cosgrove.

The 4:3 release is not actually the ‘original’ format so the DVD will be produced in 16:9 and we have done nothing more than restore from the original prints.

I hope this answers your query
Says DVD above but my question was about the blu-ray release.

.

This still hasn't been posted from HMV. Anyone had any movement on their order from any other site?

Yeah, I've swapped from HMV to Zavvi.
EDIT: Though that has a "dispatch date Est: 28/09/2012"

I'm thinking HMV may now have a supply issue, read in the HMV thread someone saying they hadn't dispatched their copy of Titanic. If they can't get that one right, then they must have some issues bubbling...

I bought this, but haven't watched it yet. Had to get it off eBay as my local HMV didn't stock it.

I couldn't find the Blu-Ray anywhere, but i did pick up the DVD last year in WHSmith. Same with the remastered Wind in the Willows film.

I'm glad they did a re-release. Did anyone else get the error on the original DVD (the version before the remastered edition)?
