Thumbs up Whoopee for Blu-ray pizza cutter-proof surface

Got Planet Earth in the mail, the box was rattling. Turns out a disc was dislodged in there. I looked at the bottom, it was smooth as a baby's ass (not that I would know first hand.) Rad.

I also found the one store in Toronto that rents Planet Earth DVD, going to try to get a copy and rip the bonus disc. I don't think that's too immoral since I paid a premium for the Blu and got less content for it. Who's with me!?

It's not cool to intentionally scratch a rented disk, especially with an educational type film that might be next rented for a younger audience.

But if you've paid the premium for the Blu, then I give you the green light to cut up your own bought version all you like.

Rip as in copy...but the title does lead you to believe there would be some mention of a pizza cutter attacking the hard coating

I saw a piece on Youtube once where someone abused the hell out of BRD and it played every time.

ooopps

I guess I'm old enough to equate rip with some sort of physical destruction.

So "copy" the extras that weren't included with the blu-ray edition? mmm... yeah, I understand your frustrations... but it doesn't make it right or lawful.

I may have been the first to find that video and post it in the forum a couple of months ago. Thanks for finding it again.

I am extremely careful with my DVD's, yet if I examine them, I can still find some slight marring, or signs of little accidents. BD is a much better investment because of that coating will protect the readablity of the disc for years to come.

DON'T EVER GET CHEAP ON THE HARD COAT, SONY. It is another nail in the coffin of HD DVD.

That happend to my Road Warrior, the whole box is crushed, half the spin is missing, plays fine.

OT some, there is finaly a place to rent blurays (no hddvd in the store) where I live (mom & pop store), want in, talking to the store owner. He was a little wired, he thinks that hddvd will win because "you can not fix blu rays, like you can with dvd & hddvd" that was his only reason for thinking this way. I told him that seen people take sandpaper to them & they still play. Right over his head. I just left it at that.

Did not rent because he just had 1 day rentals on the BD's.

& then as I walk-out to the parking lot, some guy asks me about bluray. He asks me if it can play dvd's? yes no problem & that it can play cd's & all the formats but HDdvd + a few other things about bd. It was raining out so it was a quick conversion.

...
Hard coat technology on BD makes it even more of a winner over HD DVD. My disc gets loose too, but I'm not overly concerned with it because I saw how much punishment a disk can take on youtube.

Dude, the majority of us here do NOT pirate nor do we condone it. Blu-ray will not succeed at the hands of non-consumers who insist on getting everything for free, or illegally cheap as possible.
