Default The Spectre Theater

Hey all, I'm new here. Thanks to FreyTheater3D for recommending I join.

I just wanted to share version 1.0 of my theater room. Guess this is really V1.5 as I added the velvet around the screen. Anyways its not the most ideal set-up right now, but it will do for this location. Once I can move to a new house I will open The Spectre Theater 2.0.

Since I am hoping to move sooner rather than later, I did not worry to much about making things look super organized. That's why the wiring isn't hidden, and my projector is sitting on top of a cardboard box.

So here you go, I have lots more to share and ask about. But for now Ill just share the pictures.

There are about 12 more pictures at the following link.

The place were I met Frey was just about dead activity wise, so I hope this place is better. A comment about five minutes after I posted gives me hope.

I know exactly what you mean about having it set up in a way that allows you to move out in a while. I'm in the exact same position. No worries it gives you more time to plan things right from the start when you finally get your own place.

Oh, and I'm digging the Star Trek models man. *thumbs up* on the Enterprise E and the future Enterprise D with the third Nacelle.

Welcome to the forum/galleries Spectre.

There are lots of very helpful and friendly people on this site. It's one of my main addictions. I've learned so much from the guys on this site, and made some good friends.

By the way, love the Epson 5010 pj. I've got an older 6500UB and I absolutely love it. I can only imagine how awesome yours is.

Yeah, that can take some time if you have accumlated a good amount. Welcome to the site by the way......you will find this is be a friendly place to discuss all of your HT & blu-ray interests. We keep it rather informal as well, so you don't need to be "technical" all of the time to get a response, but I think you found this out already.

And be careful of that FreyTheater guy (name is Troy) he is a trouble maker around here. Actually, he lives about 10-15 miles from me and I have been to his place a couple of times.......his remodelling of his HT has been impressive.

Just finished replacing a 570 with a whining disk drive, with a 580 that has a rattling enclosure. I can't catch a break as far as blu-ray players go.

I hope to have a new home theater to share with everyone in the next few months.
Only thing I am worried about is that the basement of the house we are looking to buy is not all underground. The wall my theater will be near is just drywall then insulation over the cement foundation and lastly brick on the outside of the house. I am probably just paranoid, but I am afraid the neighbors wont be happy if sound gets out.
the next door house is only about 5 feet away.

Put an offer in on the house and it was accepted. Hope it works out for me. Guess I can always take the walls down and add soundproofing.

Finally starting to get it put back together. Not the biggest fan of the wall ceiling and carpet colors but I wasn't allowed to repaint. Either way it definitely beats the wood paneling the old theater had.

Couple quick questions though. The bottom of the screen is about 29 1/2" from the floor. I have read that you want head level to be about 1/3 up the screen. Mine is only 1/4th. Should I take the time to lower it, or should I just leave it be.

Second question I still have the black felt from when I masked off part of the screen in the old theater since I could not go far back enough with the projector to use the whole 120". Should I hang that along the top, sides and bottom of the screen now? That would give a thicker black border and hopefully help since the wall the screen hangs on is white.

Once again.................. Congratulations on your new digs
I wish that I had the space for a dedicated theater

But if I may make a suggestion .......... I would move the screen several inches towards the door so as to not bury your right front speaker into a corner

And as far as the projection goes........ I can't be of any help as I do not own one ......... Can you alter the height of your seating though ?

Thanks.

As for moving the screen, I have huge front tower speakers, so if moved it then the left one would be in the doorway. The screen is centered on the wall, but the picture makes it look like it's closer to the corner than it really is. Is it bad to bury the speaker in a corner?

Also as of now I still only have my one chair, i am looking into getting at least two more or a small couch. When I do, I can also look into a riser.
