Since you have both now, it can't hurt to experiment with them in the same room. However, one is ported with a -3 point specced at 29hz. The other is sealed with a claimed flat response to 18hz anechoic.
Just based on those specs(I couldn't find real measurements of either). it may be a bit difficult to get them to do more good than harm together. First, I'd guess the depth will have quite a bit more output capability. Next, the depth will also have a good bit more extension. Now, factor in the big phase shift the ported unit will go through near port resonance and you have three significant issues to try to minimize. I'd probably move the dynamo to a second system/room and focus on optimizing the new Depth into the system, Tom V. |

A better option is to keep both subwoofers in the same room. One subwoofer, no matter how great, will always create low frequency peaks and toughs in the room. The bass will be very uneven. In some spots in the room, you will hear too much bass and in other spots you will hear almost no bass. This has nothing to do with the quality of the subwoofer and has everything to do with the room and the damn standing waves.
A good suggestion that Dr. Hsu of HSU Research has made in the past is to place the better subwoofer up front in a corner (not too close to the walls) and place the smaller subwoofer closer to your listening area. This way, the bigger sub up front will create the lower bass frequencies and the sub closer to your seat will create midbasss frequencies and you will live in bass heaven. In fact, HSU Research sells a midbass subwoofer for this purpose. |
